Does anyone have a defibraltor implanted
in their chest? The doctor did this to
my father several years ago after a heart
attack and angioplasty. My dad has
since had angioplasty two more times but
the last time he could feel the
defibralator firing off in his chest. My
dad is 80 years old - what happens if he
has a massive heart attack and this thing
keeps trying to restart the heart. Now
i'm concerned that it might not be a good
thing.

My husband has one with two leads, and is
getting one with 3,soon. He has one
because the bottom of his heart, doesn't
pump normally,so it speeds up to keep up
with upper. He has fast heartrate in
day,and bracycardia,at nite,and it stops
sometimes.,so it shocks him either way,and
it is horrible,he says. It malfunctioned
once, and it like to have killed him. His
top chamber is not working properly now,so
he might have to have transplant to save
him. He said he woould never had this
done, even if it saved his life. It is
constant struggle with him. The other
part is protecting it from getting hit. I
hope your dad has better luck, however,i do
believe this has prolonged his life.

I didn't have a defibrillator but I have a
2 leads pacemaker. Recently find out of
a fib. Dr can program try to suit me.
I was get kick up from my sleep few time
in a night (nearly every night). Nearly
gone mad. Day time I felt the strong
beats are chasing the small beats. I get
very tired. This time I told him I do
not like this program. He trys another
program for me. This one is a little bit
gentle than the one before. It doesn't
weak me up from sleep. But every bit get
hurt like a knife slide. If keep
continue like this for a while then I will
be short of breath, dizzy and cold flash
from my head. I also take beta-blocker
for my palpitation. I think I got
palpitation and also my heart get stop in
the night as well. My pacemaker had
failed once too. End up with the
complete heart block.

Hi, I am also a heart patient, with weak
heart muscle and I have an implanted
defibulator, it was done in october, 2004,
I must agree that I was scarred at first,
but I prayed about it and now I am glad I
have it, since october 2004, I have had 2
shocks to my heart, but I am still here to
talk about it. I got in for my regular
check ups and they look to see what took
place and when, my dr discuss their
findings if any, then fine tunes my
device and I am good until my next visit.
I am a 52 years old and I am doing very
well at this time. The defibulator
doesn't harm you it only helps.
God bless all of you who have one and the
ones who will get one.

I agree with mrssongbird. Defibs can be
a life-saver, albeit a scary option.
Most folks do fine with them, tho.'
consider checking out the device
manufacturer's websites
(www.Medtronic.Com, www.Sjm.Com, www.Guidant.Com) or
for an overview about icd's, a pretty good
reference can be found at www.Medtees.Com and
click on their "tutorials" button.
