I was on celebrex for 4 years. They call
it pain killer. It is a good drug it
helps me a lot in my pain arythritest.
Now there is a lot of arguments about it.
They figured that it cause high risk of
heart attack in those who take it twice in
those who do not. My doctor prescribed
another one prednisone. Since I started
preddnisone I suffer from strong
constipation and I gained more weight than
usual. I practiced half an hour everyday.
I stopped fat food and sugar, sweet.
Nothing help. My weight gained 10 pounds
in one month. I hate gaining weight, this
will not help me in my arythritest.
Please do you have an idea if people still
taking celebrex and did not quit it?? I
prefer to go back to it.

Those symptoms are common on prednisone..
It's a steroid that causes a lot of people
to gain weight as well as have other
symptoms. I personally am allergic to
celebrex (broke out in a rash after 2
days). I would say you have less of a
risk of side effects being on celebrex
over prednisone. I've read that the
biggest risk to people is if they are
taking other medications with the celebrex
for the heart or blood pressure medicine.
If celebrex is your only drug, then your
risk would probably be minimal.

Thank u for your information. I take
these drugs :
prednisone
synthroid
plaquenil
effexort
apo-ranitidine ( for stomach to prevent
bleeding because prednisone is strong )
now they replace predensone instead of
celebrex. I'm not comfortable since I
started that one.

It may not hurt to ask your pharmacist
about interactions with those other
drugs.. But I agree.. I would be more
comfortable on celebrex than prednisone...

As mentioned, prednisone is a mix of
naturally occuring and synthetic steroid
compounds. It is absorbed in the
gastrointestinal tract---which is why you
are having problems on the ol' potty. If
the doctor hasn't told you, and it's not
on the label, i'll tell you now: make
sure you take this tablet with food. Be
sure to have a high fibre diet. (i.E.
Oatmeal in the morning helps) to keep your
system running smoothly.
However, prednisone itself will not cause
any weight gain. Based on the other
medications you're taking, it looks like
you also suffer from a thyroid
problem---which is likely the real culprit
to your weight gain. Synthroid (t4)
readily converts at a 4:1 ratio to cytomel
(t3).. Also known as your thyroid
hormone. This has a direct influence on
your metabolism.
I would also question whether you should
still be taking plaquenil, as it is used
primarily to treat arthritis. Something
that prednisone should be able to take
care of.
Effexort is an anti-depressant if i'm not
mistaken, and really does not contribute
to the problems you're having.
I would say stick to the prednisone, but
take it with food, equal hours throughout
the day as it has a short half-life and
make sure to have a decent amount of fibre
in your diet. Your weight gain is likely
how this is interacting with the
synthroid. Get your thyroid checked out
again and find out if you possibly have to
increase your dose or synthroid to
counteract the prednisone. You might
also want to question using cytomel
instead of synthroid as it's lower
dosages, and easier for your body to
process.
Also, since prednisone is very acidic and
can burn a hole in your stomach (ulcer),
it is consequently mildly liver toxic.
You might want to jump into your local
health store and pick up some milk thistle
or ala (alpha lipoic acid)... Especially
if you find you're having some painful
urination, or your urine has a slight odor
to it.
Good luck,
justin

I Still Use Celebrex Posted: 02-22-05 19:18pm
I was taking celebrex before the studies
came out about the side affects with the
heart attacks. I have since asked my
doctor about taking this drug. She said
it was still safe, that the study
protained really to people who took twice
the dose of celebrex as they really
needed. So I am still taking celebrex on
an as needed basis. She told me that I
shouldn't have any problems with it.
I would ask your doctor about taking
celebrex due to him/her knowing your
medical history and your present needs.
They will be the one who can tell you the
best advise.
Good luck.

Celebrex ( Pain Killer ) Posted: 02-24-05 22:09pm
Thank you all for your responds to my
worry. I consulted my specialist two days
ago to complain about severe constipation
and gaining weight. She advised me to go
to herbal food to buy flax seeds. This
has a great value in reducing
weight,breast cancer,cholestrol,heart
attack,and prostate. I bought it
directly. It really has great value as I
noticed. It helps a lot in smooth the
stomach. She put me back to celebrex, I
told her that prednisone does not help me
in pain. Celebrex is pain killer, for that
I prefer to take it again. Effexort is
for depresion and anixiety, for me I take
it for anixiety. It is part of my lupus
symptoms. Thyroid too has the same
symptoms of lupus fatigue and anxiety and
gaining weight. I get fed up whith this
drugs but what to say this is god will, we
can not complain. Atl east we are better
than others who experienced and suffer the
worst.
God blessed us all
