I started taking birth control pills
little more than 3 months ago, the first 2
weeks of taking them I get really sick and
it has been getting worse. The reason why
I started taking them in the first place
is because my periods are bad and I end up
sick. Well taking these stupid pills are
making me worse. Should I stop taking
them? Or what? I wake up in the middle
of the night now being sick feeling weak
and feeling like I need to puke and it
just sucks!
Please I dont know what to do!

I think you're experiencing some pretty
bad side effects. They could get better
the longer you take it, but I think if I
were you, i'd call your doctor and see
about trying a different brand.
You have one week of active pills left?
I would continue to take them and get on
something else when it's time to start a
new pill pack. Maybe one of the new
lower hormone versions would work better
for you. What are you taking now?

The reason I started taking bc was because
I got really sick, depressed and moody on
my period. I'm taking alesse and let me
tell you, I sleep at night and I don't get
horribly ill. So, talk to your doctor
about alesse.

Kindra,
much like you, i've had little luck with
pills easing my cramps & making my pms
a little less hellious.... I've tried
ortho tri cyclen lo as well as alesse and
in both cases, the pills make me feel even
worse. My clinician basically told me
that i'm one of those people who's body
just doesn't respond well to the hormones
in the pills, and while I can change my
bill brand as many times as I want, I may
never get the desired results.
Anyway, I choose to just live with the
side effects I get from taking alesse
because on the bright side of things, that
pill makes my periods much much shorter
and I have a wonderful boyfriend who
understands the moodiness that comes with
the territory. However, there's a lot of
woman out there that once they switch to a
different kind of pill, their symptoms
subside considerably.
You may want to talk to your doctor about
trying a different brand of pill. If
you're on ortho tri cyclen lo, maybe
alesse will work wonderfully for you. It
seems to be the miracle pill for a lot of
women. ;) or, if you're not sexually
active and the pms you get naturally isn't
as terrible as the kind you get on the
pill, you may want to go off of it
altogether.

Definately, either wait out the three
months that it takes for your body to get
used to a pill, or if you can't take it
then switch pills.
And lower hormones are not always the
answer. I got sick off of the low
hormone pills and now that I am on the
strongest, nordette, I am fine. So, if
your periods are bad, don't give up. You
need to try different brands until you
find one that is right for you!
Don't give up until you have tried several
different brands, because some people try
six or seven different pills before they
find one that works for them.
