During labor a woman may be offered an epidural, where a needle is inserted into the epidural space at the end of the spine, to numb the lower body and reduce pain. This allows a woman to have more energy and strength for the end stage of labor, when it is time to push the baby out of the birth canal.

It doesn't always take the first or even second try. It could also stall labor. And some women do feel enough to know when to push so they may push longer, b/c they can't feel what's going on. Last thing, after you have the baby, you cannot get up until the epi wears off and your vitals are all good and whatever else.

*coming from a woman who didn't get the epi b/c she was scared of one of these things happening. Lol. And about 20 minutes after I had my baby I was cleaning myself up in the bathroom and putting on my own comfy clothes.

You mean epidural?

Its a needle shot you get in your back to numb the lower half of your body during labor
