Unknown Hip Pain- Worrying
Posted: 03-07-05 10:11am

H|i, i'm 19 and have had a strange pain around my right hip intermittently over the last 2 years. It wasn't a problem initially, it would last a few days on and off and then disappear for several weeks. This time it appeared again and hurts more than before. Walking makes no difference, it sometimes gets worse after sitting still for a while but sometimes it does so for no apparent reason. It feels really deep down in the joint, sometimes feels hot. I try to feel the area but it's too deep and can't feel anything out of the ordinary. I used to carry a fairly heavy bag on my right shoulder for a few years but stopped 18 months ago but the pain remained. I hope I haven't done myself permanent damage if it is related. I'm also a hypochondriac and so I get extremely worried at times. My mum has a non-serious joint condition that's nothing like mine, I don't know if its hereditary or not. Would appreciate a swift reply.

You should go to the docter and get an x-ray in my opinion.I think you may have a condition where your hip groth plate is slipping but you seem a little old for it.You should most defenetly get it checked out it happened to me and I had to get screws put in my hips. The soon you catch it the better you will be.When it happened to me about 6 months ago im (15) I only had 5 percent slippage in my left hip and 0 persent in my right and sense I cought it so early my docter says I should have no problems with it for the rest of my life so it would be good to get it checked out the sooner the better the best of luck to you!!!!!

I went to the doctor at easter and he said he thought it wasn't serious, he examined me and said that I had good movement in both joints and he recommended physiotherapy for it.
