Triphasic Pills And Non-stop Birth Control
Posted: 03-10-05 14:08pm

I'm having some trouble figuring this out.

I read at www.Talksexwithsue.Com that I shouldn't try skipping my sugar pills (continuous intake of the pill) since i'm on triphasil 28 day.

It didn't say why, not at first anyway. When I looked down a bit more, it said that because triphasic pills have fluctuating hormones, I could get pregnant. Is that the only problem with continuously taking them? Or will the fluctuating hormones do nothing to stop my period?

All i'm interested in is not having my period when i'm supposed to this month (due to sports) so pregnancy isn't an issue.

If the risk of pregnancy is the only problem, then i'm all for it.

Does anyone know if this is the case?

Thanks.

You might want to call and ask your doctor.. I'm not sure which one it is.. But I was on orth-tricyclen which has fluctuating hormones and tried to skip a month, and I missed my period, but got it 2 weeks later in the middle of the second pack and then again, when the second pack was done. I would call and ask a nurse to be sure if it will work with this pill.

Sorry to bump, but I just thought i'd update to kind of explain how this pill this is going.

So I started my cycle over again, skipping my period. The first couple of days it worked great, I didnt' feel gross or anything. But now, is a different story.

I'm pretty much having my period anyway, I have gross cramps, and keep getting disgusting headaches.

I'm assuming that this will go on for a while, and then i'll have to deal with it again once my cycle ends
ah well, it was a good experiment anyway.

Hey michelle. :)

i made the mistake of attempting to skip my period on ortho tri cyclen lo. Due to the fluctuating hormone levels in those pills, I ended up delaying my period by maybe 3 or 4 days then I had a nightmarish one that proceeded to last 4 weeks and I had awful pms and cramping almost the entire time. Some women are able to skip with ortho tri cyclen lo, but it's usually not recommended to try skipping your period unless your pill is monophasic. Always check with your doctor first before trying anything.

If you want to have periods less often, ask your doctor about switching to a monophasic pill and check with her about how to skip, or maybe you could look into that new pill, seasonelle that allows for only 4 periods a year.

Hi
i went to my doctor and told him that I wanted to use non-stop birth control and asked if I need to switch to a monophasic birth control (i too am on tri-cyclen) and he told me that I didn't need to.
After reading about your expreiences, i'm kinda concerned with what he told me......

No, actually I heard the opposite. That it is harder to skip with the one level hormone pills.
It all just depends on your body. Some people can skip and some cannot. I skipped on triphasil with no problems, and to be truthful if on the pill you would probably have more of a chance of getting pregnant during your period then if you skip it. I mean, think about it: on your sugar pills that is the only time you don't have the hormone in you that is keeping you from ovulating. If you skip it, you are just taking the hormone sooner. It really shouldn't make your risk for pregnancy any higher, but you may want to ask your doctor to be sure.
If you can't skip your period on triphasil because you breakthrough bleed or pretty much just have your period anyway, then maybe you could try a one hormone leve pill. But, keep in mind it may not work anyway, and you may end up with horrible symptoms all of the time. My suggestion is if triphasil works for you in every other way, just stay on it. Maybe if you skip your period regularly your body will get used to it and you wont have the breakthrough bleeding. But remember you have to let yourself have a period every third month. Good luck.

Many people i've talked to haven't had any trouble skipping on monophasic pills. A couple friends of mine had tons of trouble on triphasic because of the different hormone levels. On triphasic the strongest dose of hormones is during the 3rd week so if you go from strongest to weakest right away, you're probably going to run into some problems with breakthrough bleeding or just getting your period anyways. I've been told the best way to avoid this is to skip using a monophasic pill.

I agree. The reason why you get your "period" on the pill even though you're not ovulating is because of the sudden drop in hormone levels (similar to the drop post ovulation) with monophasic pills there is never any drop. You just continue at the same horomone level. With triphasic pills there is a drop, from very high hormones, to very low. Therefore you will still get a period.
Good luck

And again, it depends on your body. Many can skip with any pill, some more successfully with triphasic and some with monophasic. It depends on how your body responds.
I have trouble with either so I gave up on it, but some do it with great ease. And since your doc already told you that you don't need to switch to a monophasic to skip your period then there really shouldn't be a problem.
My doc explained to me that triphasic pills are such because some women's bodies just won't respond to one level of hormones throughout the whole month. They only need the change so no breakthrough bleeding and cramping occurs. I was on triphasil for years, but then my body changed and now I can only take monophasic pills, and the strongest available at that. If this one quits working I am screwed!

Skipping Period
Posted: 04-21-07 15:10pm

I would like to skip my period next month, but I never did it with this birth control pill. Right now I'm on Trilevlen 28 and this is my first triphasic pill.

Can I just leave the sugar pills out and move on to the next one to skip my period?
It would be nice, if someone could help me Smile

Thanks

It Is More Difficult to Skip On Tri-phasic Pills.
Posted: 04-21-07 16:25pm

My information is from a woman who works in gynecological care, so she actually knows what she's talking about.

Because of the drop in horomone levels on tri-phasic pills, it is very difficult to skip your period. The consistent level of horomones in monophasic pills is what makes skipping a period possible.

A bad side effect of attempting to skip while on tri-phasic pills can be an entire month of spotting until you reach your next period!

You can always try, but most women are unable to skip of tri-phasic pills.
