On Depo...have Had Period For Almost 2 Weeks Posted: 03-11-05 22:41pm
I don't know if I should be concerned or
not. I've been on depo since feb of 2004
and in the begining had a lot of spotting
but I didn't mind, I was told what I could
expect. By the summer months I stopped
getting my period altogether and every
once in awhile i'd have a day of spotting.
But now i've had an almost regular flow
period mixed with days of spotting and
more clots than i'd like to see over the
course of 11 days. My latest depo shot
was given to me yesterday and I hoped that
with it in my system maybe something would
click and i'd stop bleeding. Has anyone
else dealt with this? Should I be
concerned? Other than this i've had zero
problems with depo. I'd switch to the
pill but i'm too forgetful.

Depo Posted: 03-11-05 23:10pm
Be careful! My experiance with depo was
great at first. I loved not having to
worry about forgetting to take a pill
daily. My first time on the depo I did
experiance spotting and a few heavy,
abnormal periods. But the second go
around my periods stopped all together. I
had been on depo this last time for 6
months, after my second shot I noticed
that I had begun gaining weight. I was
due again jan. Of 05 and when I had gone
to the Dr. I had gained over 20 lbs. My
Dr. Said it is a large side affect. The
worst is loosing that 20 plus pounds. It
is now mid march and I am not on any birth
control and I still have not had a period
and I still have 15 of that 20 plus
pounds. So, my advise to you
is,............ Watch your
weight!!!!!!!!!

I Know About the Weight Gain Posted: 03-12-05 11:13am
My doctor mentioned the weight gain issue
and I read up on depo a lot before I got
the shot. My outlook on weight gain is I
can either gain 20pounds from avoiding
pregnancy or more by ending up pregnant.
I've already had one child and haven't
lost all the pregnancy weight I don't want
to go through that again. My concern is
just the 2 week period, I don't want it to
coutinue into 3 weeks or more.

I was on depo for a year and I will never
do it agaim. I would be bleeding for 3
months straight. And then nothing for a
few and then back on again. And I
actually did bleed almost every day!!! I
will never do it again

Thanks to all those who responded. I
visited my gyno and spoke with him
reguarding this issue. He explained
things to me... Basically he said that
since I was nearing the end of my shot
that my body might have tried to ovulate
causing me to bleed and with the low dose
of hormones I had that might have been a
factor as well. He said that since I got
my next shot my hormones should level out
and my period should end. He said he
sees this a lot with people on depo, some
experience this every time they are due
for a new shot.
This was my first time in a year that I
dealt with this. 3 days after visiting
with my gyno my period took a back seat
and I haven't had any problems since.
Depo has been a nice freedom for me, no
other complications or issues have come
about.

the Thing About Depo Posted: 04-20-05 19:48pm
I was on depo for 2 years. I had a lot
of problems but never realized they were
all related to the drug. Including but
not limited to severe weight gain, pain
during sex because of dryness, no want to
even have sex. Then, I found out that
they give depo to sex offenders so that
they wont have sexual urges!! Needless to
say, I am now off the drug. I think it
is awful and wish I would have know about
this before starting it.
