Mitral Valve Prolapse Posted: 03-13-05 02:12am
Hello. My name is natalie and I am a 15
year old smoker & drinker. Recently
I have done research on mvp and I have
found about 90% of the symptoms match the
ones I have been having lately. Before
this, my doctor told me I have a heart
murmur, which leads me to think that I do
have mvp. I was wondering if smoking
and/or drinking would make the mvp worse,
or could've maybe even brought it on. I
should also note that my grandpa had a
heart attack just recently and passed
because of it, so there is history of
heart disease in my family. Thank you.

I have mitral valve prolapse and am 24 yrs
old and have somked and drank heavily
since I was about your age. If you have
a heart murmur it is possible that you
have mvp the only way to find this out is
to have an ecocardiogram. All the
research I have done and the doctor's that
I have talked to, it's sure that drinking
alcohol and smoking cannot cause mvp, it
is probably heritatary and is usually
detected when a heart murmur is heard
during a routing check up. However if
you're having alot of the wierd symptoms
that mitral valve prolapse syndrome can
cause, as I deal with alot thier are some
medications that can help with the
symptoms, but first you have to check and
see if you even have it. Also there is
no eveidence that someone with mitral
valve prolapse has a greater chance of
having a heart attack than anyone else, so
don't worry about it. I too still party
and drink, not as much as I used to or
would like to, I have cut back on smoking
as much as I can. You have to make some
lifestyle adjustments when living with
this s#*! But you can still live a full
and productive life. Check http://www.Mvpsupport.Com for more
