Mood Swings On Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo?
Posted: 03-13-05 22:12pm

I am finishing up my second pack of ortho tri cyclen lo and I have been an emotional mess! I have never experienced such mood swings before.

I understand a lot of the symptoms are supposed to go away after 3 months. Is this true? If you felt overly emotional, did you find your mood swings settled down and you went back to the person you were before taking it? I used to take triphasil way back, and I don't remember ever feeling so emotional on that.

Daisies4me,

i went through the same thing when I started on bc (ortho-tricyclen, then triquilar, now marvelon). The day that I stopped taking the active pills and went on the week off, I was crying at the drop of a hat. I mean, inconsolable, heaving sobs. It went away after the 3rd pack or so. I still get moody the day I stop taking the pills, but nothing like it was at the beginning. And I was only moody on the tricyclen, and then for the first 2 months of the triquilar.

So yeah, wait it out for a while. If it doesn't get better after a few months, go to the doc and tell them that you're an emotional wreck. Maybe the pills are too strong for you.

Yes, for a lot of people the symptoms subside after 3 months. However, some women's bodies never adapt to certain pills and you could stay on the one you're on for 5 months and the side effects might not go away. Wait another month and if you're still feeling terrible, definately check into switching to another brand. Don't make yourself suffer.

Both of the pills i've tried thus far morph me into a moody, uncontrollable mess (ortho tri cyclen lo & alesse). And the odd thing is that the lower hormone pill makes me worse. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the next time I switch brands, i'll find one that doesn't wreck havoc on me. ;)

good luck!

I was also on ortho-tri-cyclen lo and go really moody. My boyfriend couldn't handle me anymore. I would freak out about anything. I then switched pills, and I am much happier on modicon, or nordette.

I was on ortho-tricyclen lo for about 8 months, I think. And I didn't like it. I just switched to yasmin. I didn't get mood swings on ortho lo...But I would start my period a week to a week and a half early...And then end up being on it for almost three weeks. Now i'm on yasmin and my periods are normal, they only last like four days...(which is totally weird because ever since I started my period when I was 17, i'm 22 now, it has always been seven days...Minimum!!)

You started your period when you were 17? Goddamn, that's lucky! I started mine when I was 12!

It can take up to three MONTHS for your body to properly adjust to birth control pills. I definitely wouldn't quit after just three days.

You've gotten a lot of bad feedback so I want to give some positive feedback.

I was on Orth-lo and loooooved it so much!! For 2 years it was my godsend. It lightened my periods, reduced my acne, and made my cramps almost non-existent... and that's a huuuge deal for me.
