Seizure, Slightly Elevated Glucose Level But Epileptic Posted: 03-13-05 23:05pm
Hello
I had another seizure the other day
and I had been taken to hospital and they
ran alot of tests they found that I had a
slightly elevated glucose level in my
blood but I know that I am not a diabetic
my partner is. And I test my self all the
time. Or when she argues about what her
reading tells her lol.
So now my drs want me to have a full
glucose intollerance test to just rule it
out I mean I wasnt out of the normal range
I was just a little elevated.
Could this be one of the key factors to
why I am having seizures, I know that some
ppl have them from metobolic reasons or
calcium, or magnesium reasons
deficiencies.

Hey sami_1982, how are you doing?
Other factors such as hypoglycemia (low
blood sugar), which is a diabetic
reaction, may cause seizures. A person
may have a seizure disorder (epilepsy) and
require medications.
The problem is especially pertinent to
individuals with diabetes, whose blood
glucose levels can fluctuate widely over
the course of a day, as a result of
intercurrent illness, variations in
insulin levels, or other metabolic
factors.
For excellent patient education resources,
see emedicine's diabetes center. Also,
visit emedicine's patient education
article, low blood sugar.
Best wishes,

I live in australia
the blood glucose
levels here for normal range are between
3mmol and 8mmol. Usually mine is between
5.5 and the highest its ever been most
days is 7.3 and thats after soft drinks
and all bad things high in sugars.
