Hi,
i am a reporter for people magazine and am
trying to find those who have had gastric
bypass surgery and regained the weight
they lost with the surgery. If you know
of anyone who might be interested in being
featured in the magazine, please email.
Thanks!

Gastric Bypass Posted: 11-11-03 21:47pm
Hi! I had the surgery in 1999 and while
I have not gained my weight back, I have
had some problems. I have not regretted
having done the surgery until just
recently. I have lost over 100 pounds.
Some of the problems I have had are
kidney stones, hernia, and severe anemia.
I have not felt good for a long time. I
can't remember when it started. My
hemoglobin level dropped to a 5. I had
to have a blood transfusion and followup
with 10 iron infusions. I am still being
treated for this. I am starting to feel
better but I have to take it one day at a
time. As for the kidney stones, I had to
have emergency surgery about 6 weeks after
my bypass. Both of my kidneys were
completely blocked. My urologist said it
was probably from the surgery but my
surgeon said it was not. The hernia will
be repaired within the next couple of
weeks. I am also having a tummy tuck
done (hopefully!) at the same time.
If you have any questions while you are
writing your story, feel free to contact
me.

I had the surgery in 1986. I lost over
100 lbs but have gained back around 40-45.
I want to lose the weight again, but will
have to change my eating habits a bit.
The stomach does stretch back out, not as
big as it was before, but it does. I
have had one surgery repair on my stomach
and it was several years ago. I had a
small hole in my stomach and the Dr.
Repaired it. I lost about 15 lbs, but
since have gained that back and a little
more.
The little more could be form taking
zoloft, which I hear can cause weight
gain.

mother was one of the people who died from
this sugery I would just like to say I do
not advise for anyone to ever have to go
through the pain and I do not advise the
sugery for anyone

My husband had gastric bypass surgery
about 16 months ago.He was really looking
forward to it . He was was in surgery
about 2 hours longer than expected. The
doctor told me the reason it took a little
longer was because his stapler
malfuntioned and he had to do it the old
fashion way but he did fine. He lost
about 50 pounds and put that back on plus
some.He has had open heart surgery,a
stroke ect. He stopped taking all his
meds and won't go back to the doctor. To
me it seems he has just given up.Does
anyone out there have any advice? He is 50
years old.To young to give up on life.

Katherine: I am not sure if you are
asking for people who have gained some
weight back or most or all? I had
surgery 5.5 years ago and did regain
40lbs. Back. I have taken all that back
off and plan to keep it off for good! I
think people don't realize that gastric
bypass changes your stomach, not your
brain.
