So like what the subject says, I have a
broken molar below the gumline. I can't
afford dental care so I went to the
unversity's dentistry school for
treatment. I was in the process of
getting a rootcanal, it got as far as the
pulpectomy and filling. But my tooth
broke last november before I could get it
crowned. The break is below the gumline
and is starting to hurt now. If I get it
extracted, what would be my window of time
to get an implant before all my other
teeth start to shift as there is no teeth
behind it for a bridge? As well, would an
implant be necessary or could it still be
crowned or is there a a limit to how much
a damage sustained before a crown cannot
be used?
I'd rather not be forced to pay out money
that I don't have for treatments I don't
need. I cannot go back to the university
because though I get a discount on the
work done, I end up paying back the extra
in missed time at work because the
appointments are so long and can only be
done during the week, while private
clinics work the weekends but are so
bloody expensive.

Sounds like the tooth will need to be
removed. You mentioned it is hurting which
may mean the root canal treatment that was
started has now become reinfected. In
that case it likely isn't salvagable. As
far as implants go they depend on numerous
factors. I wouldn't worry about your
teeth shifting. Implants are done by
specialists. Usually a oral surgeon or
periodontist. They can be done immediatly
after an extraction or years down the
road. It is important to have enough bone
to support it. Implants are very
expensive but the best option out there.
You can be looking at about $2000-3000 for
the implant and another $900 or more for
the crown that sits on top of it. Good
luck
