Hey guys im new to these boards but not so new to tmj, ill be 17 in a month and I think i've had tmj or tmj like symptoms for about 6 months

i just got my braces taken off last year, it may seem long ago but I did have them for 7 years, I havent worn my retainer much and my ortho said that crowding can cause problems like clicking and jaw soreness, hes a tard so he seems not to think that im in chronic pain here.

It hasnt gotten too frequent since the past month where I have it every day almost 24/7 headaches, I remember having all the symptoms since december but I never recognized them..I got incredible anxiety from it ..I mean insane ive been to the er twice...Ive had mild chest pains from working out ect but the anxiety ive gotten from this tmj was killing me ..I thought I had an aneuyrism!(sp)

anyway its just that recently im anxiety free cause I know the cause of it, the tmj. But I cant find relief , the headaches havent been too bad till recently and its more on my left side/ear than anything else, I find it very hard to function sometimes when im in this kind of pain, and when its constant the anxiety is just begging to come to surface.

I was curious if you all who have seen a handful of doctors, or just a few if you could tell me which the best is to see first ? Family doc, ortho or dentist? ..Ive been to my family doctor for an mri but it was to check for blood clots/aneuryism not the joints

Hi,

when my tmj problems began at 13, I first saw my dentist, who quickly realized I had deeper problems than she could solve. She sent me to an oral surgeon here I finally began to get treatment. Within 6 years I have seen my dentist, 3 oral surgeons, a neurologist, family physician, pain management doc/therapist. All to no avail. But I must say that my one oral surgeon has helped me the most..

My sugestion see an oral surgeon. They know a lot of treatment options..

Good luck,
cally

I posted a topic earlier which may be worth trying. It's logical and it's free.
