When I found out I was first pregnant I
smoked and I ended up having a
misscaraige. So when I found out I was
pregnant with my son I quite cold turkey.
It really wasn't that hard for me, I knew
I had to do it for my baby I couldn't do
something like that knowing it could hurt
him. Also I not 100% sure that smoking
causes these things but my mom didn't
smoke with me, but she did with my
brother. My brother is kinds slow and
had adhd. My best friend didn't smoke
with her first, but did with her second
and 3rd. Her first is really smart and
has no problems at all, but her other 2
are slow and in special schools and are in
speach threapy. One of my other friends
has a 12 month old baby and she smoked
with him, he can't even sit up on his own
yet, when he should be starting to walk,
he is also about 1/2 the size of a normal
12month old.. I'm not saying that
smoking caused these problems, but it's
one heii of a coincidence.

Hi all just wanted to comment on this
subject....I am 30 weeks pregnant and I
too am a smoker. I go to ever doctor
visit and have had numerous tests done and
my baby is perfectly healthy. Also I know
tons of other people who smoked
through-out their pregnancies as well and
their babies came out healthy and not one
problem in sight...There are so many
things out there that can cause problems
with pregnancy and I believe that all of
us are guilty to atleast one of
them....Simple worrying can cause serious
problems, and even figting with hubby or
your b/f...Cleaning, over working and so
on....Nobody screams and or puts down
those people because it is a normal every
day thing to do those things or to go
through them...As for the person who wrote
that it is better to not to quit and just
limit yourself to avoid rising blood
pressure and stress on the baby you are
absolutely correct...This has been told to
do with plenty of situations and
statistically more babies are born
pre-mature and with breathing problems due
to genetics prior pregnancies and the
biggest of all stress!!! So I would
advise the people that do not want to help
the person posting their "personal"
problems on here not to write back at
all...After all each one of us has things
we are concerned about with ourselves
rather it be dealing with
pregnancy/depression/sexual health
etc..Etc..But we like to think we can find
comfort and help on here from other people
without all of the critical people's
opinions...

I agree it's hard enough to try to stop
smoking for your child but it's harder
when you have ppl who think their better
than cause they don't.I;m a smoker and i'm
pregnant with second child. Now don't get
me wrong I love the hell out of my kids
but i'm 22 and i've been smoking since I
was 12 you say 12 yes 12.Why before anyone
jump down my throat. When I was 8 I saw my
siblings killed before my eyes.Yes this is
my reason for smoking just can't cope
without .When I thought I was the
strongest person in the world, well i'm not
and I had this book tell me to cut it down
to 10 smokes a day.I was like well that's
still to much smoke for baby any at all is
but what can you do not listen to ppl tell
you ,you don't deserve to have babies
that's mean I smoked though my whole
pregnancy with my son he was 8lbs and 8ozs
so no low birth weight. My hubby's mom said
that when she had her 5 children she
smoked with all of them they are healthy
and fine which made me feel better. But I
still feel sad for smoking but what I do
is I smoke some then I put the cigarette
out and I smoke about 3-4 cigarette when
before I would smoke damn near a whole
pack.So I had to pat myself on the back
when others would'ntto the lady who posted
do what's best for I believe god watches
over our children when we are weak he
makes them strong if want anyone to talk
to you can talk to me I will not judge
you.My email tawanasimpson@sbcglobal.Net.And
ppl with bad comments if you don't have
nothing nice to say hush.Good luck and god
bless us all

Non-smoker Who Says "good For You!"

I've never smoked, but i'm proud of those
who do and are trying their best to quit
or cut back while pregnant. Good for
you! Who do people think they are trying
to tell you you're bad. Arggh! That
makes me so mad.
My dad is a hypnotherapist and has lots of
success with helping people quit smoking
so if you have any concerns about what
hypnosis is like i'd be glad to answer any
questions.
Good luck smokers!

Wow, you saw your siblings killed? That
by itself makes you a strong person
because you are surviving with that image.
If smoking keeps you sane, I say
smoke...In moderation. Froma pack a day
to 5 or 6 is a big step hun. All those
haters.....Eat a d&^%! Good work!

...Sure, stress and stuff like that can
cause premature births, but those are
generally things you can't control. I
mean you have to clean you house, you have
to carry on day to day...But smoking is a
choice you make. You don't have to smoke
(well, smokers say they do...But they can
quit or never have started, and then they
wouldn't say that)...I jus think its
pretty selfish to smoke when you're
pregnant. You're only thinking about you
and how good it'll be to have a cig. And
with all the people dying from lung cancer
and all sorts of cancers, I don't see why
anyone would bother smoking at all
...But again, i'm not a smoker so maybe
i'm really missing out on something
great...

Likiwi,
i think this is a case of ignorance on
your part. Not saying you're dumb! Just
that you seem completely unaware of the
power that any physical habit can have.
Haven't you ever had a bad habit you tried
to quit? Well, add to that mental
struggle - the physical struggle of
nicotine withrawal. My mother almost had
a heart attack when she tried to quit.
Then she kept smoking and died anyway.
This is serious business this smoking
thing! Please don't undervalue these
smokers struggle - because you just don't
know.
This is not just a case of mind over
matter. And i'm not a smoker but I know
better so please be nice!

I am also a heavy smoker. I been trying
to quit to some time now, but I been
unsuccessful. I just found out that i'm
pregnant, but I have very low hcg levels.
Could this be due to the smoking?

Thxs for your kind words kenshura I guess
kiwi did'nt read my post or she would not
be judging me it's ok though cause I know
what i've been through and what i'm still
going through I go shrinks since I was a
child it's doesn't help much but only god
can do that for me I love my children
which is why I choose to stop smoking damn
near a whole pack of cigs to 1 or 2 a day
i'm doing the best I can I say god help to
get down from the whole pack I believe
smoking is bad but until you have smoked
since 12 to 22 than you tell me how easy
it is for some ppl yes they may quit
easier then other but it's the person not
really their will power cause you can be
the braviest person in the world you think
until you find out your a real vagina.
Well that 's all I ahve to say to defend
myself on the subject good luck to those
mothers who are trying to stop smoking and
good luck to those who don't smoke were
all women with different problems we
should just learn from each other not
judge only god can do that.

Smoking

I was a smoker! At 6 weeks I found out I
was bearing. Smoking is one of the worse
things you can do to your child.
---quote from my doctor. I quit cold
turkey that lasted 6weeks and then picked
a pack up for two days and then decided I
had to kick this habbit rather I was
stressed or not. This may sound harsh
please don't take offense---what I told my
self was I knew somking was bad for me so
how could I even pretend that it could not
be harmful to my child. Also, (this is
worse) if I did not quit I was all ready
being careless and selfish what made me
think I deserved or could be a good mother
already putting my self first.(again,
these words are harsh but I had to treat
myself like that to make myself have
enough control/ not because I belive it is
completly true)----- I have quit for good
now and even the urge has gone away. My
senses are begining to be stronger my
smell especially ----and also that ice
cream we all know we should not indulge in
taste oh so much better.
Now nicotine is an addiction it does stay
in your body up to three days after your
last cig. After that it is all mental.
If you are still struggling it is ok (god
knows I did) once you have decided you
want to quit it is possible just keep
saying no. Also another suggestion my
doctor offered me the patch---i did not
try this method but it is an option and
from I have read and heard it is
effective.
Good luck to all-----just being aware of
the sistuation I feel means you care
enough to try to better the sistution.
Somtimes thats all you can do and that
alone can be just what it takes.

Your babies may be fine at birth, but what
about 2 years old and 5 years old? Will
your smoking affect their milestones in
life? I don't think I would be able to
live with myself. I am a nonsmoker, for
not only health reasons, but I have an
alcoholic chain smoking mom. That kills
the need to start these "habits". I
agree with likiwi (sp?) I think this is
the worse thing you can do and it is
completely selfish. So if a women is an
alcoholic or an addict, as long as she
"cuts down and does her best" she is not
to blame. Bull! She is to blame. I
pray for your baby!

I am trying to quit too. Me and my
b/friend are ttc. It is real hard! I
suffer from really bad mood swings and get
over emotional at the smallest thing!
Think my b/friend derserves an award just
for putting up with it all!

I started smoking when I was 11. I got
pregnant the first time when I was 20.
Quit cold turkey. Miscarried.
Got pregnant the second time when I was
21. Quit cold turkey again.
I'm not going to harp on those that think
they can't quit. It's worse to stress
about smoking than it is to smoke *in
moderation*.
But I do think it's easy to quit smoking
when you're pregnant. I've never been
able to understand those that say they
can't (again, not harping, just a
statement).
It is, however, a medically proven fact
that smoking has the ability to cause
irreparable damage to the baby. My
mother smoked with me and I was born full
term at 4lb 7oz. Low birth weight isn't
the only affect smoking can have on your
baby.
I remember when I was pregnant and
everytime I thought to myself that I
wanted a cigarette, I just reminded myself
of a picture I once saw. It was a
pregnant woman and they showed the baby in
her (a computer created picture) with a
cigarette up to the embilical cord,
because... Essentially that's what it is
when you smoke and you're pregnant. Your
baby gets the nicotine and carcinogens,
too. That was enough for me to say no.
It made me sick to think about.
Good luck to those of you that are trying
to cut down. I had a friend that went
from reds to ultralights, and I was proud
of her. =) good luck!!!

I just want to say that it drives me
c.R.A.Z.Y when people say "i smoked all
through my pregnancy and my baby was fine"
ok. First, you may think your baby is
fine. You don't know what kinds of
problems may develop down the line (like
someone else said).
Also, it's so wrooooooooooooong to
insinuate that smoking in pregnancy is
perfectly fine because *your* baby was
fine. Every pregnancy is unique and what
other people do in *their* pregnancy has
different effects on *their* pregnancy
than others!!!!!

how does this work? I have been thinking

has never smoked since and I am nearly
24!!
Is it safe to be hypnotised when pregnant?

You ladies just keep on trucking, and
don't let the holier than thou types
convince you you're a bad person.
I smoked until I found out I was
pregnant... Not as heavily as many of
you... A pack would last me 2-3 days,
usually. But I stopped when I found out
and have had only 2 since (both right
after getting into a huge fight with my
mother - on two separate occasions - and I
was so upset that I was
hyperventilating).
My sister-in-law was told by her doctor
(as were many women I know who were
smokers when they got preggy) that it's
better to have one occasionally than to
stress out a whole bunch. However, that
being said, it's obvously not right to
say, "oh, i'm just way too stressed," as
an excuse every time you want a ciggy.
Just remember, all we can do is the best
we can do... You're all trying, and
there's nothing about that to demean.

The woman is not asking if smoking is bad.
She only wants to know if a cig a day is
going to hurt the baby. But keep
preaching. If you only understood
addiction. I give props to her for
quiting and wanting advice before she
decided to have a cig.
