My mother's sister has just gone into a
coma and is in hospital in the icu.
I wanted tounderstand what exactly a coma
is, wanted to know if the myth is true
about what you say to a person who is in a
coma... I mean, I have heard that they
can hear what you say and therefore you
should not say anything negative in their
presence (e.G - I dont think she will come
out of the coma... Or.. It's better she
dies than remain like this...)
please help me to undestand. Thanks.

They say that a person in a coma can hear
and understand you and that people whom
they love and that love them should be
there and talk to them as much as they
can. They even say that being there is
better than not as they can sense the
presence.
Saying something such as ,"she'd be better
of to die" is unthinkable to me as it is
rude and uncalled for, and I imagine that
would not help the person in a coma's
spirits any. Things like that shouldn't
be said at all and definately not in her
presence. She needs motivation,
inspiration and love to get through this.

Hotas... Thank you so much for your
reply.
Unfortunately, she passed away the day
after going into a coma, and she actually
woke up to see her children as they came
into the hospital room, and as they went
outside for a minute, she passed away.
Its as if she knew her time was coming and
she didnt want anyone in the room when it
happened.
Take care.

Oh, I am so sorry about that. I am glad
she got to see her children though, and
she is in a better place. God bless.

Hi white,
bascily a come is when the brain has
forced itself to sleep. It is rumered
that someone in a coma can, on a
subconcious level, hear you. I've heard
lots of stories of ppl who have come out
of a coma just by the presence of a loved
one.
