Hi there!
Unfortunately, dear, there is no cure.
But over the last twenty or so years,
people with lupus have been living more
"normal" lives.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease. The body
essentially attacks itself; any organ
system can be involved. Those most often
seen are skin, joints and kidneys...But
again, it can attack *any* organ system.
I encourage you to visit
www.Lupus.Org. They
have a *great* description of what lupus
is, the treatments involved and how to
live with it.
I would also encourage your sister to join
a forum online (like ours) and even look
for a support group in her area
(www.Lupus.Org has this info too.)
also keep in mind that disease progression
is
different in every patient.
While some of us only have joint and
rashes, others have serious organ
involvement. Not a single lupus patient
has the same involvement or level of
invlovement.
Tell your sister to keep a daily diary of
her ailments. This will help her doctor
get her the correct care. She will also
want to keep a copy of all her medical
records.
This is very brief and barely touches the
subject. If you would like to privately
e-mail me (pm) do so! I'll help anyway I
can.
Hugs to you and your sister,
ladybrannon
