Irregular Periods
Posted: 03-25-05 13:04pm

Does anyone else suffer from irregular menustration?

I honestly hate my body for this!! I was always so regular and then when I got married and started being sexually active my body went wacko. I mean I was always pretty regular but now I never have my period on the same day or within the same week two months in a row. It just kinda comes whenever it feels it like. Sometimes light spotting twice a month.. Sometimes I will go 7 weeks without one. It is soo frustrating especialyl when I want to become pregnant. The doc did a thyroid lab test and said that everything was fine.. But I made another appt for monday so that they can seriously to something about it. For this year '05 in jan I had it the 3rd.. Then 7 weeks later on feb 24th and now its march 25th and no sign of it. I already took like 3 preg. Tests this week and their all negative.... Im soo mad.
Does anybody else have this prob????

I have the same exact problem. I have thought on many occasions that I was preggo, gone 40 some odd days w/ out a period and kept getting negatives on hpt's then I finally get it and am so disappointed. I know how you feel. One month 28 days like normal thne the next it's 42 days and I have no idea why.

Count me in! It's extremely frustrating...I should probably go to the doctors.... The longest i've gone without a period was 72 days  .... That was back in august, I didn't get till mid october. Then it started getting lower....35, 24, 48, 49... And then up again. But the last two months were only 1 day difference so maybe i'm starting to regulate??? boo I dont know....

I think you ladies are experiencing amenorreah - absence of menstruation. It's when a woman doesn't ovulate and doesn't experience a menstrual cycle for months at a time. If you're trying to get pregnant your doctor would need to put you on a follicle stimulating hormone to induce ovulation. Has your doctor tested any of you? There's a blood test called fsh (follicle stimulating hormone) to see if you indeed have amenorreah.

It could also be polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos). With this you may also only ovulate a few times a year. Your doctor can actually do a vaginal ultrasound to detect polycystic ovaries...They will be enlarged and many cysts will appear on the ovaries.

There are infertility medications to help stimulate the ovaries if you are trying to get pregnant. Clomid and metformin are the most common pill forms and there is also an injectable if the pill form isn't working. They are all usually taken on cycle days 3-9. These drugs can be expensive though and most insurance companies might not cover them since they are considered treatment of infertility.

I wish you all the best!!

Could This Effect Me Having a Baby One Day?
Posted: 04-19-05 17:20pm

I have had an irregular period since the day I got it back when I was only 11 years old. I lost my virginity when I was 13 and it seemed like after that it got worse, the longest i've went without my period was 6 months for no reason. All the doctors I have seen have not took the time to run any test they all just send me away and say that its normal. However my boyfriend and I have been trying to have a baby for 3 years now and nothing has happened i'm only 19 years old and i've had two of my friends accidently get pregnant and have a abortion already and here it is i'm trying to get pregnant and keep my baby and it still hasn't happen in 3 years. I really need so advice its becoming very depressing.

Going that long without menses is not normal. It is almost always because of some hormonal influence, and as such, to sole it you need at least a blood test and an exam.

Now, hormone variations can come from many things. For one, excessive exercize or being to thin/skinny can stop your periods completely. Various illnesses can do this as well, but some are not expected in young women. Polycystic ovary syndrome has already been mentioned and can indeed occur for anybody. Also something called endometriosis can cause problems (also results in rather painful menses). It can also be a problem in the gland that regulated the hormones, a gland called the "pituitary galnd" it sits right up under the brain and also regulates hormones for growth and for your thyroid. So if you have weight problems and signs of an abnormal thyroid (especially if your mom, dad or others in the family also have/had those problems), then that needs to be looked at.

But for the physician to just ignore it as not important is not appropriate. There could be numerous reasons, some of which need to be looked at, and some of which may also affect fertility in a rather significant way.

Well i'm a guy, but I think my gf is doing this right now too.

She always used to be regular, but after we got sexually active, her period has been off. It was off 3 days, then normal, then off 3 or 4 days, and now its off for a week. This time it's a little scary... This month we haven't had sexual intercourse, but shes still late. The pregnancy test came back neg though.

She went to the doctor and the doctor told her she can't handle stress for crap... Could that be another reason why her period is so off? I mean a week is crazy.

So i've had six different blood test run on thursday and I got the results on friday and everything is good. So I need to find out what is causing my irregularity, my doctor said I could get a protestrone shot, but I hate hormone therapy I don't trust it. So do any of you know what has caused your irregularity, what test did they run?
