Hey -
i have a question - I had my prenatal blood work and got the results back, I was told that I had tested positve for beta streap ( I think that is how it is spelled) it is some type of bactriea that some women have in there vaginal area, I was told that I would need to be given an antiboic during labor to prevent any passing on to the baby. Has anyone ever heard of this, any feedback would be good. Also my husband enjoys preforming oral sex and I am worried that he may catch something??/

any advice would be great!!!

Thanks -
heather

You're a group b strep carrier. If it would get passed on to your baby during childbirth, it could cause a serious infection in the blood (sepsis) and brain (meningitis). It's definitely life-threatening to a newborn, that's why they'll give you iv antibiotics during labor.

Don't worry, it's not a sexually transmitted disease or spread in any other matter except during childbirth. I've read that about 1 in 4 women have this condition. As long as you get the antibiotics you and your baby should be fine!

This is a very common condition. Dont stress your self over it. The possibility of transfer to the babe is minimal but the iv antibiotics are a precaution that should not be overlooked..
