Am I Worrying Too Much? Pleae Help (long)
Posted: 03-27-05 10:29am

In early january I had pain in my right testicle that would come and go. I got an ultrasound which found some small head cysts? In my left testicle.

The doctor said take advil. I did and the pain was noticed less often.

About a week after the initial pain, I started feeling a tingle in my pubic region, on the right side. Then the pain went to just inside my right hip.

Again saw a doctor. He said hes not too concerned, but if it gets worse, could be my appendix.

So the pain didnt go away and I went to emergency. They did blood and urine and found nothing (no high temps).

At this time I started feeling other symptoms; tired, weak, nausea, frequent urination (this problem I had for a while), ear noises, feeling like I wasnt in my body. My family doctor said its probably anxiety, but send me for an ultrasound for the urination problem. I also noticed at this time that some of my symptoms matched those of kidney cancer. I was worried.

At the ultrasound she spent alot of time at the left kidney. I knew something was there. A tough long week later, I got the results. My left kidney had a 2.7 x 2.4 x 1.5 cm parapelivc cyst in the upper pole, 1.9 x 1 x 1.6 cm mildly complex cyst in the lower pole, and a 3.5 x 3.4 x 3 cm prominent isoechoic area in the left kidney, a possible solid mass.

They said I need a ct scan and set up an appointment. I was sure it was cancer. The ct scan (contrast/no contrast, with triphasic imaging of the left kidney) found nothing, and the report didnt even mention the cysts. The us report says the mass could be a dromedary hump (normal variant). My doctor said us sometimes picks thing up that arent there and the ct is far superior

i still feel pain through my abdomen, mostly the right side, but sometimes the left. I was worried that the results and that the ct scan was wrong so I had another us ultrasound last week. Waiting for the results

my questions; can the ct missed the cysts/lesion? Is the ultrasound accurate? Can a dromendary hump be possible, and are they that big? Is a mildy complex cyst something to worry about?

I do have an anxiety problem, but this is killing me. I cant take not knowing and questioning the results.

Btw, I am a 23 year old male, I thing a little young to worry about these things. Also had an x-ray, no stones were ever found

Your not worrying too much. Its your life and you have got to be proactive and I applaud that you repeated the ultrasound.

I do believe anxiety def. Gives us symptoms but when its kidneys and flank (rib pain) its indeniable.

Ct scans are good for what they can show, my doc told me this, meaning,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,no, they do not always show whats wrong,,and neither do ultrasounds.

24 hr urine to check all levels,,creatine, protein, blood , need to be done...........
Ultrasound is better to pick up suspicious things in kidney, I truly think you'll get somewhere.

Make certain that you document all of your symptoms and tests, so that any doctor that may need to understand total history will have no problems.
Of course your worried, your human!

I care,

Dromedary Kidney

So what happened with this - what did they find? My husband has just had a sonogram that revealed a hump on his left kidney - possible dromedary kidney, but they want to do a ct scan w/dye to rule out a tumor. Anxious to hear how yours turned out.

Ultrasounds are wonderful and ct scans can be accurate, but at the same time many come back unremarkable.

Any kidney involvement needs to be checked with a small dipsstick in urine sample for blood/protein. If either are found you need a referral to a nephrologist immediately.

Do not accept flank pain, its your bodies way of telling you something is wrong.

24hr urine checks (urinating in large jug for 1 day) reveals creatine level (kidney function), protein, blood, mucous (infection).......This is a test that many physicians fail to order. You only have to ask!!!!!!!!

Trouble urinating ( I just found out) isnt only the kidneys, a trip to the urologist (if kidney prob is ruled out) is a must. They will conduct a urodynamics test to find the cause of limited or overage of urine production.

Stay proactive this is your life!
Anxiety can be treated with klonopin, an outstanding medication that will not hurt your kidneys.

I cannot stress enough ,,,just how important a nephrologist is. He deals with every kidney disease possible including cancer. Specialists are needed in all of these cases ive read.

Much love,
