2 Years W/o Gall Bladder And I Still Have a Few Problems Posted: 03-29-05 16:24pm
Hello. I've been looking for a forum like
this for months. I had my gall bladder
removed in may '03 and have had a number
of problems. First and foremost is
something I have not read in anyone else's
posts. Each day, as long as I didnt eat
(or have a bowel movement) within a few
hours of going to sleep the previous
night, I will have to make a movement
within 30-90 min after the first time I
eat/drink coffee. If I dont eat/go in the
morning and eat lunch at noon while I am
out, I will have to go within 30-90 min.
I have never been like this before, and
while it is a minor problem, it often gets
in the way of my life. The dr told me to
stick to a low fat diet, but i'm no health
nut and dont quite understand what this
includes (outside of the dreaded french
fries).
Also, I have severe gas at times. It just
builds and builds, while this isnt a
problem when I am alone, it can be a huge
problem when I am out.
I was told that certain foods would give
me diehera without the gall bladder, while
I do have this often (maybe 2 days a week)
I have yet been able to blame any type of
food. I have been told by friends that
they have had problems with fibers, salad,
etc. This has lead to a paranoia about
these foods and thus I stay away.
Any light that can be shed on any of these
areas (especially the first one) would be
great. Especially knowing what foods I
should actually stay away from. Thank you
in advance.

Doctor Prescribed Cholestid For Symptoms Posted: 05-26-05 09:28am
I suffered with similar symptoms for
nearly 7 years. I had my gall bladder
removed in 1995. After years of
suffering and fear of diseases such as
colon cancer, I finally broke down and
went to see a gastrointestinal specialist.
He was able to prescribe a drug called
cholestid for diarreah and previcid for my
nausea and indigestion. These meds had
been a life saver for me until my recent
pregnancy. I have been able to continue
the previcid, but had to stop the
cholestid due to risk to the baby. Since
going off this med I have begun
experiencing inconsistent bm and severe
gas pains which I assume are related to my
on-going digestive issues since my
surgery. Simethicone seems to help
relieve some of the pain. I highly
recommend cholestid - it gave me my life
back! Your doctor will be able to let
you know if this drug is safe/an option
for you.
Now - if anyone has any suggestions on how
to handle these symptoms during pregnancy
they are welcomed. I have 4 more months
to go... My ob has not been able to
offer much advise other than I will have
to live with my symptoms until the baby
comes. My gastrointestinal doc does not
really want to pursue anything until after
my delivery... I have not been able to
find many articles on this topic. Also -
I have not been able to find a direct link
to the foods I eat and my symptoms. It
almost seems random as to how my body will
react. I am soo excited about my new
baby, but my on-going digestive issues
have really put a damper on things...

Diarreah After Gallbladder Surgery Posted: 06-22-05 13:25pm
I had my gallbladder removed in feb. 2004
and I have had severe diarreah since. I
have had every test known to man on my
intestines and everything comes back
negative. I recently had a biopsy of my
small intestines and that was negative as
well. I am soooo frustrated. I have
lost 45 lbs. In the past year (30 of it
in the past 4 months) I can go days
without a problem, then all of a sudden,
it is non-stop running to the bathroom.
Most times I can't make it in time! It
doesn't seem to matter what I eat. It is
almost always from early morning to early
afternoon. Sometimes it gets me after
dinner but not usually. I am convinced
that this is a result of the gallbladder
surgery. Until I found this site, I
hadn't met anyone that had this problem
after the surgery. Also, the surgeon
never told me that this might be a side
effect. I am beginning to feel like a
hypochondriac. If it wasn't for the
diarreah, I would think so myself. I
understand that there is a medication I
could take. Can anyone out there tell me
the name of it and how it is working.
Most meds come with a list of adverse
effects...Do you know what they are, if
any. I am on alot of ther meds for other
illnesses so I am wary about adding yet
another pill to my litany of drugs that I
take every day. Does anyone know of a
"natural" way to stop this problem. I
have tried rice and other starches but it
doesn't seem to do anything. Help.
