Cant Sleep, Cant Wake! Posted: 03-29-05 20:41pm
I find myself (rather like I am now!)
still awake at stupid times and just cant
go to sleep. Once I get to sleep after a
long time tossing and turning I just cant
get up in the morning.
I am on anti depressants and have been for
a while now, I am aware that these can
effect my sleep and cause insomnia.
My doctor gave me some very mild sleeping
tablets which do work but give me a nasty
taste in my mouth for the whole of the
next day, which to be honest id rather
stay awake! Lol
the weird thing is some nights I fall
asleep really fast and other nights I cant
sleep at all. It drives me mad!! But the
more stressed I get the harder it is to
sleep.
Any ideas on how to help me sleep better
and get up in the morning? Ive tried hot
baths, cocoa, no tv in bed, relaxation
exercises, inscence candles.... Etc etc
etc :?:

If you have not tried ambien yet, I would
recommend that you give that a shot.
I use the 10mg which is the higher of the
2 different doses, 5mg and 10mg.
You have to make sure that when you take
the tablet, you are ready for bed and
close your eyes at the 15 minute mark, or
you will have trouble getting to sleep,
but once asleep you still will sleep very
well.
The tablets are expensive, even with
insurance, I pay 40 bucks for my
prescriptions but they work wonderfully
and I havent noticed any bad taste from
them at all. :)

I am not sure if it is called ambien in
the uk but the active ingredient is:
zolpidem.
The nicest thing about them is that you
are not tired in the morning after taking
them! You can wake up and go about your
business without being in a fog all day
like with many other sleeping pills.

Hi manchestermadchick,
i'm in the uk and the drug is called
zolpidem. I used to be on the 5mg but
wasnt doing much for me so I was told to
increase the dose to 10mg which is ok but
I still feel tired in the morning when I
wake.

With my own sleeping problem, i've found
that stress is usually what gets in the
way of falling asleep and staying asleep
(thinking about things that are stressing
me just gets my mind wide awake). I tried
some relaxation/meditation that seemed to
help for awhile, and recently tried the
"inner" part of gotinsomnia.Com - that has
worked very well for me (did not have to
buy anything) . Sometimes the typical
"relaxation" methods end up just stressing
me more, but this one does not attempt to
relax stress away.. It's been good for
just getting me to stop thinking. About
an hour before I go to bed, I also start
getting myself into an "everything is
okay, non-thinking, non-excited, go with
the flow, i'm not going to argue with
anyone, not going to analyze or worry
about anything" state of mind. This may
sound funny, but it's been the magic key
for getting to sleep and staying asleep
for me. Good luck!

I suffer from fatique all the time as
well. Every time i've been to the doc
they've told me that i'm
depressed.....But, since then, i've been
put on anti depressants and i'm still
tired!
I fall asleep fine....Except for tonight -
haha...But I wake up over and over and
over...I fall back to sleep quickly as
well, but cannot stay asleep.
In the morning I am absolutely knocked
out.....
If I take sleeping pills i'm always in a
fog the next day...I've tried melatonin
and it seems to help very little...My
boyfriend suggests taking 3 at a time, but
the directions say not to go over 1 in 24
hours...
If anyone has any suggestions, please,
please tell me

Im not sure what this problem is called,
but I know I have it too. I can't sleep
ether. I take anti depressants, have been
taking them for a few months, and I just
can't sleep. Before I had taken them I
couldn't sleep ether, but I would wake up
at all hours, and then I wouldnt be able
to get up in the morning. But now I still
feel the same way on the meds, but its
worser, I can't fall asleep, and im
stressed out, like ill lay there in my
bed, and think and everything will run
through my head like a tv screen, all my
problems come running through my mind so
fast, and I get stressed out. So now when
I go to bed, I try not to think, I try to
turn off my brain..Lol I try to sit
quitely, and not thinking its so hard, but
the more you think the more your going to
get stressed out, and the more you can't
sleep, and the more hours your awake cause
of it.. And I have noticed that the more
you think about sleeping, or thinking
about how your going to get to sleep
making falling asleep even harder. The
anitdepressants do cause sleeping
problems, some people take there meds at
bedtime to help them fallsleep, cause it
makes them drowsey, real sleepy, it does
me, I get so tired at work that im about
to fall over dead. Try taking your pills
at bedtime, give it a few mins to kick in,
and it should help, but its hard...
I might have to talk to my doctor about
getting me on a sleeping med to help me
sleep, cause I can't sleep at night, I
wake up all hours still at night, then
trouble falling asleep when I have awaken,
and when I wake in morning im not rested,
I feel so drained, and tired, and mad, and
upset, and I get so tired, its so hard to
work this way....... I drink coffee now
to try to stay awake at work, im only 18,
and I feel so older cause of how tired I
am, and how dead I feel. I even take my
sisters sleeping pills sometimes.... I
know not good.... But what can you do,
your so tired, but can't fall asleep..
Well hope this helps.................
Chat with me anytime.

It sounds like hormones to me. I had
exactly the same problem and had a full
hormone profile done and found I was
lacking in melatonin ( the sleep hormone )
and Progesterone which also aids in sleep
and thyroid which helps you wake up in the
morning. It is possibe and fairly common
to have hormone imbalances way before
menopause so go have it checked out and
treat the cause rather than blocking it
all out with sleeping pills!!
