Daughter Newly Diagnosed With Type 1 Diabetes Posted: 04-01-05 04:14am
Hi,
my 8 yr old daughter has just been
diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, it's only
been a week, so any help and advice is
greatly appreciated.
Many thankls,
i've been doing a lot of research on
health problems and issues. One thing I
know is that 30 years ago type 1 diabetes
in kids was unheard of! So something has
changed from then to now.
If you send me an email i'd love to talk
and help you out.
Hello,
my daughter has had diabetes for a while
but I found a great website for parents of
newly diagnosed children.
Com
god bless you

My mum has had diabetes from she had
me.... She is on insulin 3 times a day.
I suppose you get used to it.. She used
to look after a little girl of 5 in our
school at lunch time who had diabetes wen
she went low or high. Do all the reading
you can about it and always monitor her
sugars giving her wot ever she needs
depending on her sugar, you will become
more relaxed with this as time goes on
good luck

Newly Diagnosed Type 1 Posted: 04-24-05 00:18am
Hi amanda!
My thoughts & prayers go out to you,
your family, and especially to your
daughter. My only child andrew, was
diagnosed with type 1, 3 1/2 years ago at
the age of 15 1/2. No one in our family
had this disease, we were totally in
shock, and at times, still are today.
We had to educate ourselves. I still
spend many sleepless nights searching the
web for research updates, education, etc.,
but mainly for answers on "how did this
happen to my child!" there are 2 wonderful
websites to consider. Www.Jdrf.Org and www.Childrenwithdiabetes.C
om. The juvenile diabetes research
foundation or jdrf will give you day to
day updates on research, they have made
amazing strides, it will give you hope, I
promise! There are message boards on
the children with diabetes site for your
daughter to communicate with other kids in
her same situation. Please consider
sending her to a summer diabetes camp.
Your local lions club will offer
scholarships, just ask. Her school
nurse can also arrange it for you. I
wish you & your daughter the best.
Feel free to email me anytime.

hello amanda,
i have written an ebook about my
experiences with my daughter from the
moment of diagnosis. I wrote it to help
parents who are in the exact position you
are in now. If you would like, i'll send
you a free copy. Just send me your email
address. The book is in a pdf format so
you will need the free adobe reader, which
if you don't have, can be downloaded to
your computer. If you are interested send
an email to ratma
n57@sbcglobal.Net i'm pretty sure this
book will help.
God bless you and your daughter.

Only follow the advice of your
indocrinologist as far as diet goes with a
newly diagnosed, or any type 1 diabetic
goes, for that matter. Type 1's tend to
lose weight very quickly, & cutting
out certainly nutritianal needs can even
stunt their growth. Please, please only
follow a medical doctor's advice, before
starting any particular diet for a type 1
diabetic.

There are two types of diabetes mellitus,
type 1 and type 2. This article concerns
type 1 diabetes, which has also been
called childhood-onset diabetes or
insulin-dependent diabetes. In type 1
diabetes, the pancreas cannot make the
insulin needed to process glucose.
Natural therapies cannot cure type 1
diabetes, but they may help by making the
body more receptive to insulin supplied by
injection. It is particularly critical
for people with type 1 diabetes to work
carefully with the doctor prescribing
insulin before contemplating the use of
any herbs, supplements, or dietary changes
mentioned in this article. Any change
that makes the body more receptive to
insulin could require critical changes in
insulin dosage that must be determined by
the treating physician.
Chromium helps to regulate blood sugar
level and indirectly affects level of fats
in the blood. Alpha-lipoic acid may treat
symptoms of nerve damage in people with
diabetes and may improve the
glucose-lowering action of insulin.
Vitamin b complex 50 helps produce enzymes
that convert glucose to energy and may
also aid in preventing diabetic nerve
damage. Flaxseed contains essential fatty
acids that protect against nerve damage
and keep arteries supply. It also works
to lower cholesterol level, and thereby
protecting against heart disease.
Antioxidants, including vitamin c, vitamin
e and phytonutrients in bilberry, prevent
damage to the nerves, eyes, and heart.
Gymnema may increase insulin production or
increase insulin release. Taurine may
improve insulin sensitivity and decrease
cholesterol level. Zinc is an essential
mineral that is a component of enzymes
needed to repair wounds, maintain
fertility in adults, help cells reproduce,
preserve vision, boost immunity, and
protect against free radicals, among other
functions. Copper is needed with
long-term use of zinc, because zinc
inhibits copper absorption.
Do not take these statements as medical
advice. If you think you may be in need
of treatment, please contact a healthcare
professional.
