Questioning Diagnosis
Posted: 04-04-05 22:22pm

Hello, I am a 27 yo male. About 4 weeks ago on a business trip I felt bad, went to the doctor and they told me it was dehydration. Kept going back every week because I didn't feel better. Finally I got a positive monospot test the day before I left. This was almost 2 weeks ago, so I was sick for approx 2 weeks before and have been so since i've been home. However I didn't have much of the classic mono signs apart from alot of fatigue and a slight sore throat with a slight temp which has since gone down.

I went to the Dr. Today and found liver function normal, wbc elevated but still within norm range as well as high norm rbc.Platelets are in the mid norm range. Neutrophile and monocyte are both high but lymphocyte is low norm. Is this normal blood work for infectious mono? I am concerned because I have been sicker than normal for the past year but was always told it's a common virus. But the same thing over and over is a little troublesome to me. Hopefully i'm just worrying because I am stuck at home with the internet, lol. Anyway I deeply appreciate any help on this!

I would ask the Dr. If he checked your ferritin levels.
That is the iron store in your liver that depletes before anemia sets in.
I've had to have iron infusions in the past for the same symptoms you have described, except my mono was when I was 26, I am now 42.

Thyroid function test would seem like an option as well.
If you have any luck...Post back!
