Infants And Medications Posted: 04-05-05 13:41pm

our baby boy of just 3 1/2 months has been
diagnosed with epilepsy and we are so
scared about the medication. We have no
problems with handling his condition as my
husband has it too - but his onset was not
until 32 years old. But, a baby still
developing and taking medication???? The
medication prescribed is tegretol but the
side effects are terrifying. I am
petrified that with my strong family
history on both sides of my family of
cancer, that letting him take this
medication to control his seizures will
leave him wide open for developing cancer.
He has already showed a decrease in
urine output and hair loss. We cannot
find a site out there that lists other
medications for infants with epilepsy.
Are there other medications that do not
have so many horrible side effects and
will allow our baby to continue to develop
normally???

I am so sorry your baby has this as well!
It is tough with the meds for sure, but
remember that the seizures are also bad
for a young brain. It is best to try
meds, see what causes fewest side effects
so he has a better chance....
Hnag in there. Must be so hard with hubby
and baby!
