I Lost One Pill, Please Help Posted: 04-05-05 20:36pm
I am hoping that someone here can give me
some advice on this...
On friday I dropped the pill for that day
on the floor and I couldnt find it! (it
was one of the light pills for
ortho-tri-cyclen lo) I didnt know what to
do, so I called my friend and she said
just miss the pill that day and take the
next pill the following day like i'm
supposed to. She said that missing one
day is not a big deal, just continue the
packet on the following day like planned.
I have never missed a pill the entire 3
years of being on it, so I took her advice
since she has missed pills before.
Today is tuesday (about 4 days later) and
now I am lightly bleeding as if I was on
my period. I understand that this is a
result of missing one day and my body is
reacting... But my question is:
1) should I continue the packet like I
have been?
2) what should I do if I lose a pill again
on a different cycle?
I hope someone can get back to me.
Thanks
update: I have had light bleeding everyday
sincei posted this. It hasnt stopped, but
I continued to take my birth control pills
daily (except for missing that one
day. I am supposed to get my period in a
week. I really hope I get a real period
since ive been bleeding for a week and a
half

You say you missed one of the light
pills.. Which week would that be for?
(i don't take ortho lo). If it was an
"active" pill, then you should not have
skipped a day. When you get your next
pack, look at the directions that comes
with it or ask a pharmacist. Some say to
start a new pack if you lose a pill, but
you might be able to start with the next
day's pill and continue through the rest
of the pack. The bleeding sounds normal.
I've missed days and had to catch up by
taking two pills the next day and would
get that same bleeding.

I'm nat too familiar with ortho lo, but
you probably should've taken the next days
pill right away. Definitely continue
taking the pills like you have been -
that's good. Do you have the
instructions that came with the pack?
Typically if you miss a pill you're
supposed to take it as soon as you
remember even if that means taking two
pills in one day. Since you missed a
pill all together I would use a back-up
method if you have sex...I feel that you
can never be too careful. The directions
on any pills I have ever had say you don't
need a back-up if you take the pill as
soon as you remember, but you didn't take
one at all so I would be careful (if you
miss two, you do need a back-up because
you could get pregnant). I would also
call your doctor's nurse...They're an
awesome resource for situations like
this!!
