What Do I Need to Do Before I Start Trying Posted: 04-05-05 21:26pm
Hey guys
i am going to start trying for a baby by
the end of august. Summer is fast
approaching and I have been doing some
research to prep me for my jouney. I
have booked my pre-conception appointment
with my family docotor for the beginning
of may. At my last appointment she told
me to start on folic acid. Now I was also
told that taking materna vitamins three
months before trying to conceive really
helps too.
Is there anything else I can do to help
prepare myself?

I've put it on here in several places, but
I can't stress it enough, make sure you're
ovulating. There's nothing more
frustrating than ttc for several months
with nothing to show for all the work.
You can use the ovulation tests, but read
the package carefully, they can work a
little differently. The easiest method is
still the temp method. Your temp will go
up right when you ovulate. Take it every
morning, there are also web sites on
natural family planning that can explain
everything.
Hope this helps, good luck!!

Ok...If I am getting my period monthly
does that not mean I am ovulating?? I get
my period every month on the 28 days
regularly?
I also have been taking my temperature
everyday at the exact same time without
getting out of bed. I do notice a very
small change in temp in mid cycle...I
guess it might mean I ovulated.
I am just going to try naturally for the
first 4 months, then if nothing works, go
on a vacation and come back using an
ovulation kit. Those are my sweet plans
i can't wait to start trying!!

Wow ur really becoming focused on this..
Thats great!!!
But yeah if you have a 28 day cycle then
ur ovulating at about day 14 (so if you
start with day 1 on the first day of your
period) so around day 14 is when you
should be ovulating. That slight rise in
temperature is the indicator that there is
a surge of lh (hormone that stimulates the
ovaries to release the egg).
On getting ready..
Just eat healthy, do smoke or drink,
exercise moderately, and take your
vitamins and you should be healthy!!!
Good luck and have fun on this
adventure!!!
