Stress Or Stroke? Posted: 04-07-05 15:44pm
On 22 march 05 my 40 yr old wife woke up
during the night suddenley. She got up
and went to the loo and felt her balance
was not good. Over the next week she
found that she had a tendency to walk to
the left. She experienced weakness on her
left side and also noticed that she was
making more left hand key stroke mistakes
on her keyboard. On 2 april 05 she
collapsed while in a local supermarket.
The local hospital emergency dept
suspected stroke. Blood works, mri, ecg,
chest x-ray and echo of heart have come
back normal. She has regained some
strength on her left side and can walk
now, providing she has something to hold
on to. She tires easily though.
Neorolgist has ruled out stroke and says
it is stress/ anxiety and suggested
counselling and physio. She still has a
balance problem - will lean to the left
when eyes are closed and doesn't always
feel able to move because of the weird
balance problem. Any ideas? She is
convinced that something must be going on
and feels frustrated and annoyed at the
diagnosis of stress as the cause of this
problem. She admits that she has been
under stress but that she felt as though
she was handling it. Any ideas please. -
worried husband in the uk - thank you
Have you ever made MRI or CT-scan of the
brain?
Does she have hearing problems and
tinnitus? Has she ever been examined by
ENT-specialist?
Is the "balance problem" present all the
time or occurs suddenly and how long it
lasts?
Is the balance problem related with some
activity like neck movement, urination or
physical activity?
Which medicines do you take?
