My son has been diagnosed with asthma
maybe allergies. I've never gotten a
true answer. Yesterday, we had some
chest x-rays done on his chest. The
results came back reading "bony structures
normal. Aortic, hilar and cardiac
outlines normal. Mild left retrocardiac
plate-like atelectatic present. Right
lung clear. No pleural effusion.
Impression: minimal left retrocardiac
plate-like atelectasis." the doctor
didn't know what that meant. Can anyone
please explain what this means and is it a
serious condition we should worry about.
The doctor is going to refer us to a
specialist, but we must wait about a week
before we see him. My son is only 5
years old. What do I do?

Retrocardiac Atelectasis Posted: 08-28-07 19:17pm
I'm
sorry to here that your son is sick. The
word retrocardiac means an old scar. And
the word atelectasis means collapsed air
saks in the lungs. Put together, I don't
understand how they fit together, unless
your son has scarring on his lungs where
the sack have collapsed. I hope he will be
alright. I know from personal experience
that doctors can do wonderful things. God
bless you and your son.
