It is a psychoactive substance. It actual make chemical change is the brain receptors. Where alcohol, barbituates, amphetamines changes the electromotive charge. The other abused substances help you avoid reality. Marijuana makes you see a different reality that is just as valid as the "normal one". With it we can see just how everything is so stupid we laugh. The government wants you to see only the reality they want you to see. They don't want to be laughed at as the fools they are. Our governments worst fear?

i think marijuana helped me get to where i am and im not in a good place. i would highly disagree with using it to make you feel better its a drug, its not particularly good for you. try other things to make you feel better like exersize more and eat fruits and veggies. you dont need to do drugs

I smoke pot everyday and have for over 30 years or so. It helps with my tummy aches and helps me sleep and helps me get the munchies so I can eat well every day. With HIV or any other number of ailments, marijuana is a blessing. It is a all natural herbal plant and there are many benefits to marijuana. I wish people would get off the "marijuana is a drug band wagon". So are cigars, cigarettes and wine and alcohol and beer but they are all legal. Marijuana is a valid medication and should be as legal as Xanax or Valium or alcohol, etc...

There seems to be some very bizarre interpretations of marijuana in this thread. I know many people who smoke or have smoked marijuana. In regards to how they handle the effects, it's a totally open spectrum. Some over-used and subsequently quit, others smoke daily and don't seem to have any trouble with it.

In regards to medicinal use, I'm fully in favour of it. I'm even in favour of it for recreational use sold under a legal framework as a means of dismantling the violent black market. As a medicine, I know of people who have been able to use it to relieve deep muscular pain. I don't really see it as a cure for depression because marijuana tends not to work like other drugs in that it doesn't have "escapist" properties like alcohol, anti-depressants and various other drugs. It's even difficult to classify marijuana in a drug because it can contain anything up to 400 different cannabinoids (mainly non-active). I guess this inconsistency makes it difficult for some doctors to recommend.

That being said, I think it is highly unethical to prosecute individuals who rely on marijuana for pain relief. Even arresting a recreational user for minor possession is somewhat absurd because it achieves nothing on a grander scale. Illegal marijuana is very much a "daddy knows best" concept if you take time to study the history of its prohibition.

MiseEire, you said it. You sound like you know what you are talking about and you sound like an intelligent person. Alcohol is legal and pot isn't....that is the mistake of our fore fathers and needs to be corrected.

Ok, here we gooooooooo.

When you smoke pot, it makes seemingly trivial things seem significant. So, for example, music might sound better, tv might seem more interesting, etc. It enhances things, especially what you're already feeling. So, for example, if you're stressed out, you might have an anxiety attack after smoking because it has enhanced your stress.

As far as medical uses, I'm sure it has some effect on hunger; that's pretty obvious.
It may even make you feel more relaxed at times. But with the exception of glaucoma or something like that; i think people just like the way it makes them feel, not that it has any significant benefit for any reason.

I think pot is not as harmful as other drugs, but I think that chronic use of it will only lead to problems in terms of motivation, stress, and other things.

They don't call it dope for nothing mmmkay. Try sitting around with a few people stoned while you're sober; it puts a new perspective on it.

Sorry, I ruined your high..ahah...

Brian, you make several good points but alas I have to disagree on most. But this is the USA and we each have the right to agree to disagree. Peace!Smile

A lot of plants, has tactics to protect it self from being eaten. Mirijuana, poppies etc has a narcotic effect on what ever creature consumes it so next time the creature would avoid it because the plant made it ill.

Unfortunately human's don't always see such effects as bad Wink

I would agree that using it medicinally is not wrong. Using it in normal day to day life is a form of escapism, in my eyes. It takes away reality and after a while, you can't tell what is real and what not.

I do smoke cigarrettes...and yes, even that is bad but the effects is not as strong as Marijuana. I think the difficulty is the fact that it places you and all others around you in immenent danger, as you are not in full control of your thaughts, unlike something like beer that basically dull's your senses a bit if taken in moderation. Abuse of alcahol is just as dangerous though but there is no moderation with drugs...they alter the brain function and your thought patterns.

Just my two cents worth Wink
