I had an abortion jan 15th, its now april
21st and I still havent started my period,
the doctor that performed my procedure
prescribed me progesterone, I took it for
10 days, its been 8 days since I took the
last pill. Should I have started
already? What could be the cause of
this delay? And yes ive taken several
pregnancy tests, all negative.

after an abortion, it
takes a few cycles before there actually
is a significant amount of lining building
up to axctually shed during menstruation.
Therefore, it will take a few cycles
before a period may start, and likewise,
the first few may be very light. This is
the same as after a d&c, if you have
ever had that.
That aside, progesterone completely
suppress the buildup of the lining as
well, so it is unlikely that you are even
able to menstruate until at least one
month after you stopped the
progesterone.
So I would not worry at this time.

Hey tinkerbell,
i'm not sure whether you'll read this or
not...But I had my abortion in january
also...And its been 4 months almost 5 now
since and my period still hasnt come back
to normal yet. I've had a few light
bleedings and I kinda freaked out a bit
cos I was expecting it to be stronger..So
yeah i'm still waiting for things to get
back to normal...So far i'm feeling
ok...Has anyone else had anything like
this?

After my last miscarriage about 6 years
ago I had to have a d&c which is
similar to an abortion . I bled for
about 2-3 weeks after and then nothing for
a few months. So I think it's normal.
I would say if you still have nothing by
the end of june then really get checked.
