Little Graphic But Looking For Help Posted: 11-07-03 00:21am
I had sex with my boyfriend about a week
ago, and now I have to urinate a lot. I
also have a dark brown film inside. It is
not runny or even really discharge. It
simply comes off on the toilet paper after
I wipe. I am worried about a possible
inffection, but I do not have any health
insurance to see a Dr. Dose anyone know
where I might be able to go to get seen
with little to no cost to me? Or do you
have any idea what might be wrong with me?

Well, it sounds to me like a urinary tract
infection (uti). The "film" could be
dried blood that is coming from your
urethra, the opening from which the urine
is eliminated. I suspect you may already
know this, but the reason for a uti is
because bacteria from the anus is pushed
up inside the vagina, thus causing an
infection. The only way to rid yourself
of this is to have a doctor prescribe some
type of antibiotic, like a sulpha drug
(bactrim) to kill the bacteria; if you
wait much longer, you run a risk of
hurting your kidneys. The fact that this
dried brown material sounds like it could
be blood indicates that it is already
moved in that direction - the kidneys.
Now, as for the lack of medical insurance:
you might want to call the local women's
health center in your area. The fees are
sometimes based on your ability to pay;
the other option you may want to pursue is
to call your local hospital, ask the
operator to connect you with the
department that gives doctor referrals,
and then tell them you need a low-cost
primary care physician or general
practitioner in your area. Tell them you
have no insurance. If your area hospital
does not have a department that will give
you names of local doctors, then try
another hospital in your area until you
find one that does.
I hope this helped you. My opinions are
just that - opinions, and do not reflect
the diagnosis and treatment you would
receive from a licensed m.D. Or other
health practitioner.

One More Thing to Do In the Meantime... Posted: 11-07-03 07:31am
While you are looking for a doctor to give
you a prescription for the sulpha-type
med, you could try drinking lots of water
and cranberry juice, if you can get it, in
the meantime. This will help flush out
some of the bacteria that's up in the
urethra.
Another thing I thought of is that if you
have recently had a period, this dried
brown material might be left over from
that. I know that is ridiculously
obvious, but sometimes when we are worried
about something, we overlook the things
that are right in front of our faces.

No thank you so much for your help.
Belive it or not I have never had a
urinary tract infection so I didn't know
what I was looking for. Nor have I had my
period this month. Thank you so much. I
will see a dr right away.
