Hey, you know what are you talking about?
You are pregnant and you are still taking
these pills…that too Vicodin? Don’t
you know that this is very harmful for you
as well as for your baby? So, please, stop
taking these pills right away. Taking of
vicodin for a prolonged period may result
in dizziness, nausea, vomiting and even
respiratory depression, and hallucination.
And since you are pregnant, this may
affect the well-being of your baby as
well. So please talk to your doctor
immediately and do something about this
addiction of yours. I would suggest you to
go for the rehab programs. It will really
help you, I’m sure. Take care.

Vicodin While Pregnant Posted: 07-17-07 12:41pm
Hi there I am curious to know how your
labor was and most of all how is your
baby, any health problems. I myself was in
your shoes I toke vicodin my whole
pregnancy as while due to medical
conditions all my doctors knew and they
said it is one of the safest pain meds out
there for pregnant women. I had alot of
fear when I gave birth (c-section) that
something would be wrong, but baby is
healthy and is so ahead of his game he is
7 months now crawling and walking talking.
I hope all is well with you and your baby

Vicodin is actually one of the safest pain
releivers (narcs) to give a pregnant
woman. Let's not start judging someone
simply because she is pregnant without
knowing all of the facts.
If you truly want to stop taking this
medication, please speak with your
physician about it. There are ways that
they can help you to discontinue its use.
Are you taking it for some sort of pain?
Perhaps there is an alternative therapy
which would be less impactful? A little
more information can help me provide you
with a more thorough reply.

Vicodin And Pregnancy Posted: 07-22-07 14:41pm
Hey girls. I'm glad I found this forum. I
too have been taking vicodin for about a
year on and off for severe back pain and
injury. I have recently become pregnant
and immediately inquired as to taking pain
meds during my pregnancy. I was also told
it is one of the safest pain relievers to
take. Even more so than over the counter
ibuprofin. I am going to continue to take
my meds until my doctor advises otherwise,
but it makes me feel better to know there
are others out there in my situation and
also who have healthy babies. THANKS!!!

I took vicodin throughout my whole
pregnancy I also have chronic back pain
and if you have been pregnant then you
know that the pain gets alot worse as you
put on weight and grow in every inch of
your body, I was so nervous for the day I
delivered I wasnt sure if maybe the baby
would come out with an addiction as well
but everything was fine and it seemed as
if every doctor or nurse I saw was nevcer
concernend about it. I remember when
opiates came up in my urine test so they
sent me to an ultrasound specialsit who
can see all that could be wrong and all
was fine there were actually suprised that
they would send me there for that. I took
them from day one of my pregnancy and my
baby is healthy my husband actually says
he has super geans never gets sick and is
23 pounds at 7 1/2 months and he got his
first tooth today I just watch him closely
to make sure he does everything when he
should and let me tell you he is ahead of
the game he has been crwaling since the
end of 5 months and he has been walking
holding onto things at early 7 months, he
even gooed and gawed early. Just make sure
your doctors monitor you throughout your
pregnancy. One more thing do you have a
hard time with prenatls I couldnt take
them my whole pregnancy they made me sick.
Good luck..

Safe?... I don't know about that.
Sure, its not heroin or oxycodone, but
hydrocodone is still a pretty strong
opiate.

Safe, according to the ACOG. This
narcotic pain reliever has one of the
smallest amounts of drug crossing the
placental barrier in pregnant women, thus
making it relatively safe. It is, in fact
much much safer than Ibuprophen or Aspirin
in pregnant women. The strength of a drug
does not necessarily have anything to do
with its safety in pregnancy. It is the
teratogenic effects on a developing fetus
and the risk for miscarriage which
providers think about when prescribing
pain relievers to pregnanyt women.
Oxycodone is also relatively safe for
pregnant women.

Concerned About Vicoden Posted: 08-18-07 07:50am
Hey there! I know what you are going
through! I, too, am taking vicoden and
pregnant. I'm 9weeks along and have been
taking vicoden since day 1. I have a
bulging disc in my neck and I have been
taking vicoden for pain along with muscle
relaxers for 2yrs now. I was scheduled for
a discetomy with fusion right before we
got pregnant, but thats out the door now.
I told my Ob what was going on and he
asked that I stopped taking the med before
delivery b/c the baby will be addicted to
it. I was shocked to hear him say that I
could take the med up until delivery. Even
the muscle relaxer, Flexeril. He said that
neither medication causes birth defects,
but your baby will be addicted. Thats
something to keep in mind! I also told him
that I would like to stop taking
everything but my vitimans and he
subscribed me another pain med that is
non-narcotic.
I know I'm addicted to the vicoden and
there's a good chance that you are too.
We've been taking it for far too long. I'm
scared of going through withdrawls, but
I'd rather do it now than have to watch my
baby go through it! Its going to be a
long, hard road, but we can do it!
Just keep in mind that if you continue
to take it, when the baby is born, the
pediatrician is going to have to order
vicoden from the hospital pharmacy to give
to your newborn so they can ween the baby
off the med, it will go through withdrawl!
And if you are considering breastfeeding,
you may have to take a vicoden before you
breastfeed to pass it along to the baby so
it will eat!!
Stay strong!!!! May God Bless You and
Your Family!!

It upsets me so much when people judge.
Being pregnant does not meen that you are
no longer addicted. If that was the way
that it was then do you know how many
suffering addicts would be getting
pregnant. I am a loving mother of three.
Before becoming a mother I was the classic
stay at home Mom. I ran a daycare and I
remember being pregnent with my first two
daughters and becoming angry when people
would come anywhere near me with
cigerates. Then I became depressed and was
drinking daily. I was a full blown
alcholic. I found out I was pregnent and I
was so happy because I thought that was
the answer to all my prayrs. I remember
looking in the mirror and saying "finaly
you can stop." I was dead wrong. I was not
only physically but mently and spirituly
addicted. I cut down alot but I had to
drink just to get through. Every morning I
woke up and looked in the mirror and told
myself that I hated myself and call myself
all kinds of names. After having my son I
was in desperation. I couldn't take care
of a baby in this condition so I called
Alcholics Annonoumous and from that day on
I started recovery. Yes I had relapses and
had to go into rehab but now I can say
that I have been cober for six months.
Anyone who sais coments like "it's one
thing to hurt yourself but yoiu baby is
diffrent," has no idea what addiction is
all about. Instead of critisising someone
why don't you try and help them and tell
them about NA or AA. Trust me the ladfy
that posted this is living in her own hell
and your words are making nothing
better........

I think if she is taking Vicodin for a
medical reason, then it's worng to tell
her that she is addicted. I was confused
by the topic of this post. If, however
she is NOT taking it for good medical
reason, then I agree completely, she needs
to seek help. Thanks for bringing up your
story. I think people will find some
comfort in reading your words.
