My boyfriend found out yesterday he has
molloscum contagiosum, a skin virus right
above his genitals that is contagious but
treatable. Anyway, he said two of his
friends also had it a few months ago.
Everything I read about it says adults
contract it through sexual contact, rarely
any other way. My boyfriend says he must
have gotten it from the couch that was
given to us by one of those friends.
That seems ridiculous to me. I was just
wondering if anyone knew if it was
possible for adults to contact it
non-sexually, or if he thinks I am really
stupid and will believe he got an std from
the couch? In the past he has seemed
unusually "close" with his friends, but
nothing I could really put my finger on.

Hey hollandr, how are you doing?
Infection follows contact with infected
persons or contaminated objects, but the
extent of epidermal injury necessary is
unknown. Lesions may spread by
autoinoculation (spread of infection from
one part to other parts of the same
body).
Autoinoculation may result from trauma,
such as shaving or manipulation of lesions
by the patient. It is important to note
that not all cases in adults are sexually
transmitted.
Mc generally is a benign and self-limited
infection. In adults who are more
motivated to have their lesions treated,
cryotherapy or curettage of individual
lesions is effective and well tolerated.
