Worried-not Eating Properly
Posted: 05-02-05 09:36am

Hi everyone,
i am currently 16 weeks pg. For the past whole week, I am having trouble eating. I don't feel like eating anything, even if I force myself to eat something, I feel sick and throw up. I've only been eating fruits, 2 glasses of milk, just 1 small meal.

But I do feel hungry but can't stand any type of food. Am I harming my baby??? I am taking pregnacare's one (17 vitamin + folic acid included ) tablet everyday.

Do/did any of u have/had this problem :?: I am quite worried abt it
:(

I actually talked to my Dr. About not eating properly, because all I want to eat if ever is junk food. He said that it will be fine because no matter what your body will find a way to pull all the nutrients needed for the baby from your body. The only problem is it will be harder for you to lose weight. He said as long as you eat I fruit or veggie a day and take your vitamins youll be fine.

Its hard sometimes to eat healthy especially during pregnancy, when your body wants anything but healthy stuff! :d

Yeah, I think you're ok but it's best to get as much nutrients as possible. Your baby will pull what it needs from your body, which could make you weaker until you replenish that nutrient.

Hey you know, I have this problem as well except for one thing,
i dont get sick

im 14 weeks this week and I do eat little bits (always healthy) but it worries me cause im already so small (42kg)

im taking vitamins as well though so I try not to worry too much.

Supposedly when you do crave foods its your body telling you that you need something, so possibly something in the sweet food is something you need,

i was craving salt badly last week and then strawberries and then junk, so try not to worry too much, your body will tell you if theres something you need ok :)

Cravings

I wouldn't worry too much. When your morning sickness goes away, you can eat healthier. It is important to provide nutrients to the fetus, but don't stress out and take your vitamins. My doctor told me to take mine right before I go to bed, which really helps because I hate taking them in the morning- they're nasty!
I'm more worried about the foods I crave right now. I have no self control or will power. When I crave sweets, I go crazy! I'll eat donuts, and candy bars and lots of junk food. I try to make up for it by drinking milk and eating at least two or three fruits a day.
It'll be ok! :)

I think we're all on the same boat here.
I am the exact same way. I eat ok I guess. I mean sometimes im not hungry but then it pops in my head that maybe the baby is even though im not. So I try to snack on things...Not always so healthy. I hear the baby does soak up alot of your bodies nutrients which is cool. I am also told that no matter what you eat make sure you brush your teeht more then normal or more precisely while pregnant...The baby drains alot of yur calcium and it can weaken your gums and teeth. But as long as you brush everyday you should be fine. Sorry im just big on keeping my teeth nice and clean... Iget it from my mommy.Lol. Good luck and don't stress it. We're all in it together. Enjoy your pregnancy thats what im trying to do. Even though everytime I peek at that darn scale it gives me the chills. Lol. Thats enough to make me hurl.Lol.
Cheers to healthy babies. Goodbye.

Kismit,
that's funny, because I freak out about my weight as well. At my last Dr. Visit, I weighed in at 134 pounds!!! I've never been more than 110 in my entire 25 years, so it's very strange. I've heard you lose it by the sixth month. I sure hope so.
As far as my diet, i've been...Ok. I try not to stress out about it b/c it doesn't do any good. I just try to eat healthy when I can. I like how you pointed out even though you, the mom, may not feel hungry, your baby might be. That's a good way of thinking! I try to snack on foods such as raisins, bananas, apples, yogurt, milk, etc. But there are those days when I pig out on sweets and I also crave salt. I've been craving salty foods for a while now.
Oh! Today, I am officially 28 weeks- I am now in the third trimester!! Yeah!! :d

good luck to everyone! And don't stress!

I definately know what you mean when you say you have never weighed so much in your life.
Yikes. I have never weighed to much. The number has never been a big deal to me as long as a feel good and look good like I know I can. Im not stuck on the thought of me weighing the same number my whole life. I just wanna be fit and comfortable in my own skin. Its really hard now a days but right now all that matters is her health...Even if I have to struggle forever with my scale after she's born. I try to eat healthy as much as possible but its tough to break habits. I mean I love veggies and fruits of all sorts I always have... Its just those drive thru dinners that get ya.

Good luck and congrats on your 3rd trimester.... Your almost there.

Weight Gain

Hi kismit and everyone,

i definitely agree that the baby's health is the most important issue here. I would totally sacrifice my weight if it meant that she would be healthy. Lol, I know what you mean about fast food. Sometimes i'm so hungry or in a rush, I have to grab a quick bite and it's not always the healthiest. I need to improve my vegetable intake, especially green foods such as spinach and broccoli. I'm also bad about carrots.

It really is tough to break old habits. But you know what i've noticed? Before I used to eat a lot of sweets and slowly over the years, I got sick of eating a lot of candy and sweets (my husband had said when we first met he had never met anyone who ate sweets and snacked like I did) so I stopped eating like that. Lately, i've picked up those habits/cravings again!! For instance, today I ate a package of hostess' ho-ho's. I haven't craved those in years!!!! Actually, I thought they were gross for a while, so it's...Interesting! I don't think I would've ate them if I was not pregnant!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi there! Congratulations on the pregnancy! Talk to your Dr. Or at least your phamacist about this. Your pregnancy needs nutrition! I am not a dr but I ate soda crackers when I felt this way, they seemed to help but we are all different, hopefully the problem will go away soon!
