How Do I Lose the Last Ten Pounds? Posted: 05-02-05 15:39pm
I need suggestions or opinion or comments
on this...
When I was 12 I was 193 lb, and I dropped
until 150lb when I was 14. I am now 16
and 135 lb. I am a female and am 5'9".
For the past few months I have been
struggling with losing those last 5-10 lb.
I workout 3 times a week and eat pretty
healthful foods. (i eat a lot of fruit,
i'm beginning to think it may be too much)
my workout consists of about 20 minutes of
cardio on the treadmill (burns about 200
calories) and then about 45 minutes in the
weight room doing various machines. (i
work out my entire body)
everyday I eat a low fat high protein and
fiber waffle for breakfast with some
fruit, then for lunch a cup of low fat,
high protein and fiber cereal, and a cup
of v8 juice. Then for dinner I eat
something healthy, and lots of fruit.
Every monring I also take a tablespoon of
safflower oil and a tablespoon of flaxseed
oil because I read in this book "eat fat
lose weight" it helps your "brown fat"
burn calories.
If anyone has anything to say about this
is would be appreciated. Thank you.

I wonder why you lost so much weight when
you were 14 and why you want to lose more
after getting to 135 lbs? Actually at 5'9
and 135 your bmi is 19.9. Anything under
19 is seriously underweight.
You seem to be doing a great job eating
healthy and exercising! :) just don't
concentrate all the time on losing weigh
or you will end up like me- with an ed and
I am sure you don't want that for
yourself!
You seem to be really determined with the
exercise and healthy eating- that's great!
Also too much fruit shouldn't really harm
you- they dont have that many calories
either. The eat fat lose wight sounds lik
the atkins diet- where you cut out carbs
and you eat only fat...People say the
atkins works but I don't know anything
about it
well take care and keep posting! :d

The eat fat lose weight thing only lets
you have healthy oils and fats like olive,
flax, and safflower oils, and other fats
like avocados and salmon. No excessive
bacon, steak, eggs, creamy salad
dressings, etc which is full of
cholesterol like the atkins diet does.
The atkins diet disturbs me. Frankly, I
loathe it.
I lost weight when I was 14 because I was
severely overweight and my insurance
company came to my apartment to discuss
yearly payments and plans, etc. And the
representative showed me a chart that said
if I gained 2 more pounds I wouldn't be
covered under my mom's insurance.
All I really did to lose weight was not
eat breakfast (i never eat breakfast)
either skip or have a healthful lunch, and
then eat after school and at dinner. I
also stopped drinking anything but water,
even though I never drank much soda to
begin with.
I wanna lose 10 more pounds because I want
to be a model. I have a moderately small
body frame, which is something you cannot
alter when calculating your bmi.
Also, I don't really look that skinny. I
don't have an eating disorder where I
think i'm super fat or anything, I just
don't look that skinny. I have the most
trouble with weight around my lower body,
like my lower abs and legs, thighs, butt,
etc. Basically I want to look like one
of those people on shape magazine or
something.
But I really need something to do to
overcome this weight loss plateau.

At 5'9" and 135lbs I don't believe you
need to lose any weight. However, if
you're planning on being a model you
obviously have a different standard to fit
into.
I suppose the first thing you need to
tweak is your diet. Rather than eating
3 meals a day, eat 6 small meals a day to
keep your metabolism up and running.
Try including more lean meats, vegetables
and and whole grains into your diet.
Tuna, ground turkey, chicken, egg whites,
ostrich, bison, cottage cheese for
protein. Old fashion oats, whole wheat
bread, a wide variety of vegetables for
grains and carbohydrates. You're already
doing real good with the healthy fats.
I would recommend using a supplment called
udo's oil which you can get online.
It's an oil blend that contains the proper
ratio of poly and mono fats. *remember
not to cook with these fats because they
were breakdown into saturdated fats.*
as far as fruit is concerned, I would
never suggest cutting them completely.
But you might want to limit them. Fruit
does contain sugar and that could hinder
your progress. Also get rid of the v8,
that stuff contains a lot of sodium and
tends to make people bloated. Eat real
vegetables instead.
Mix up your diet, don't just eat the same
things everyday. You'll get bored with
your diet and not get the nutrients you
need. Also, if you work out and don't
eat enough food, your body will respond by
holding onto the little fat it has left.
I would also recommend switching up your
cardio and weightlifting days. Lift one
day and do cardio the next. Make your
cardio really count by making it short and
intense. Try something called h.I.I.T
high intensity interval training. Also,
give free weights a chance and don't be
afraid to lift heavier weights at lower
reps. (within reason of course!)
you will not become a big, muscular freak
because women simply do not have the
testosterone to get remotely anywhere near
that.
Have you ever had your bf% tested? I
would pay more attention to this number
than to your actual weight. Some of that
weight might be muscle, and muscle weighs
more than fat. So the scale can
sometimes be misleading. Also, because
you're so tall you're going to be
naturally heavier than girls who are 5'4"
or 5'2". So don't let the numbers
frustrate you.

Ooh, thank you. I will certainly check
out this edo's oil.
I do eat vegetables. I drink v8 because
I like it, but it does have a lot of
sodium, and I love my sodium. I don't
haigh high blood pressure or anything like
that though. Does sodium make you put on
actual pounds on? Like fat pounds?
I have a problem about eating often,
because I have school and only have one
break. I could slide something in during
class, like some almonds or something.
I'd need a suggestion on that. Also,
every day I eat basically the same things
for breakfast and lunch, except on
weekends. I eat high protein and fiber
cereal for lunch and a high protein and
fiber waffle in the morning. Now I
sometimes eat oatmeal instead. Is
flavored oatmeal really that bad for you?
I workout about 3 or 4 times a week, I
can't really fit in more than that because
I do have school and all. I try to make
the most out of my trips to the gym so I
work out a lot.
I think I may be eating too lfew calories.
I dont know my body fat percentage, but
my parents won't let me go to a
nutritionist or where ever you go to get
it measured. I don't know how to make
sure I get enough calories but not more
than enough.

Why won't your parents allow you to see a
nutritionist? It certainly wouldn't be a
negative thing.
Sodium doesn't make you gain fat per se,
but it can cause you to become bloated.
I'm slender, but if I eat a lot of sodium
my belly tends to get bloated and i'll get
this little pot belly that makes me look
pregnant.
However, some people don't have that
problem.
I would try to eat as clean as possible.
That means eating more natural, whole
foods. High fiber cereals are good, but
they'are also processed. Regular old
fashion oatmeal is a good way to go. You
do not want to eat the flavored oatmeal
because it is full of sugar. You could
regular oats with some cinnamon &
raisins or use sugar free maple syrup to
dress it up.
3-4x a week in the gym is plenty of time.
In fact, you could probably find a good
training split at www.Abcbodybuilding.Com in the training section of the forums.
They also have a ton of information on
nutrition which could help you out as
well. (this is a free website, by the
way.)

My parents aren't from here and don't
believe in using doctors for everything.
Besides, they think I am perfectly fine
the way I am right now and don't want me
to lose any more weight.
I don't really eat much sugar aside from
fruits, so is the oatmeal really that bad
4-5 times a week?
Thanks for all your help!!

Eating flavored oatmeal 4-5x a week will
probably hinder the results you want.
There is around 15 grams of sugar in a
packet of flavored oatmeal, not to mention
that you will digest this a lot quicker
than regular oatmeal and will be hungier
later on.
They do have low sugar options available
which might not be a bad start. :)

The low sugar options have sucralose in
them or some other artificial
sweetener...I hate it when they do
that...I just bought a bunch of oatmeal
thats flavored, but maybe i'll just eat
that once a week instead of sometyhing and
eat normal ones for the rest of the
days...
15 grams of sugar is really that
fattening? I mean, like seriously, I
barely eat any other sugar...
