I'm not depressed right now, and haven't been for many years. I came across this forum, though, and wanted to post because I know what it's like to be so depressed that you don't want to go on living.

Twenty years ago, I was a teenager. I was depressed enough that I was flunking out of school. I was convinced that I was so ugly that no girl would ever want me. Some days I would simply lie in bed all day because I lacked the willpower to do something as simple as get out of bed. I very nearly killed myself -- twice.

Today, I am happy with my life. I have a phd and i'm working the job that I always wanted. I have a wonderful wife that is intelligent, loving, and absolutely gorgeous. We've been married for almost 10 years, and our marriage is better than it was at the beginning. I have a young child of my own.

My only point in writing this post is this:

*****don't give up! The future is better than you think*****

i know that you may feel that life is hopeless. You may think that you will be depressed and miserable forever. That's what I thought 20 years ago.

Please, please, please understand that depression isn't forever. The way out of depression is different for different people, but if you keep trying you will find the way. The secret is simply to never give up. You may be going through a rough period in your life right now but please understand that it won't last forever.

Thanks...I found this really inspiring. I am kind of depressed I guess and I see that even though I maybe like this now at age 15 I will have a better life when I grow up!
Thanks again for posting this, it really made my day, I smiled for once...Thank you!
