Well, despite best efforts my pain is not
going anywhere. I had some good days
this week, but when push comes to shove
nothing has changed. My docs latest
direction is physical therapy banking on
the fact that it could me muscular or
skeletal. I'm to start taking 800mg of
ibuprofin 3 times a day, which didn't help
before, use a heating pad 3 times a day
for a half hour each time, and begin the
therapy. If after several weeks there
are no changes then it's off for an mri.
Just more time, money and energy wasted if
you ask me. I'm still in search of a
cure or at least moment to moment confort.
Has any one had pain into the left
breast itself? This whole thing has me
paranoid and feeling like every pain and
odd feeling is cause for alarm...

I have this issue as well, sharpe pains on
the left hand side just under the rip
cage. It does feel like trapped wind.
The thing is I have done a lot of reasch
on this and I believe I have found my
issue and may be yours.
It would seem that I only get these pains
when I have drank milk. Please see the
link below:
Hi everyone,
I must say I was a bit relieved to read
the posts here. I've been having the same
kind of pains, and it's making me crazy.
I worry about it all the time, and I
suppose that's not helping since it
appears it may be stress related.
I've had pain in my left rib cage as
well, for about 4 months. It also
continues around my back from time to
time. I also experience a feeling just
below the left rib that feels like someone
has poured warm water over the area.It
feels like a gushing for only a second or
two, then stops as soon as it starts. My
Dr. Could only explain it by saying it's
probably just my stomach emptying
fluids.......Not sure if I buy that or
not.I also experience a fair amount of
abdominal cramping and gas. I'm hoping
someone here can give me some
insight.I've had a fair amount of stress
recently with the break-up of my marriage,
and several big changes at work as well.
My biggest fear is cancer, but i'm sure
i'd have had more symptoms by now. If
anyone has any suggestions,please e-mail
me anytime. My e-mail is kari196
2@hotmail.Com
thank you so much :-)

Pain Under Left Rib Posted: 07-02-05 09:15am
I have had the same pain for some time, it
comes and goes. I haven't really been
able to tell what makes it better or
worse, although it does seem to worsen
during stressful periods. Ironically
that is when I drink and smoke more.
Something i'd like to get rid of
altogether but i'd have to leave this
stressful job first. I have lower back
pain periodically, a symptom that just
started more recently. I too have a
rash, which is on the back of my neck but
I thought that was related to a hair
product. I'll have to rethink this.
Any information is helpful, i'm actually
surprised so many people have the same
condition. I'd like to hear some
specifics on the dietary changes, I think
I eat pretty healthy now.

Pain In Left Rib Cage And Straight Through to Back Posted: 07-03-05 00:40am
My daughter has been experiencing the
exact symptoms that I have read, jsubak,
your posting sounds identical to hers!
Now my email is tytyme@aol for anyone that
can help us out. This dull and sometimes
sharp pain has been going on unexplainable
for several months at the left rib cage
and sometimes raps around to the left side
of her back. She is 20 years old,
full time pre-med student and needing any
feedback she can get. We have had ct's
mri's and ultrasounds............Nothing
that looks suspicous at this time. She
had a colonoscopy a year ago and that was
prior to this symptom, but it was good.
She was having some red blood after bm so
we wanted to be certain to check for
polyps.......There were none. She does
have a fisure tear. This strange and
unending pain has us all worried. I am
helping her search for answers.........Any
help is appreciated. :(

I got the same problem, a bit different
though.
Im 15 yearsold and recently developed
pains in my whole torso area... I get
pain in a few locations. One location is
right under my right breast, second
location is on my right side, both of
these are sharp pains, thrid I get burning
pains in my back, fourth I get pains on my
upper left side of my chest right near my
heart, it's kind of a heavy feeling, fifth
and last place inwich pain/discomfort is
experienced is in my left side of my neck,
I have a lymph node (not to sure about
it's spelling) and its constantly making
me uncomfortable.
I've had these symtoms for about 3 months
now, and I am not sure as to what caused
this although I told my doctor what I was
doing before this (smoking marijuana) and
he said it could have caused a inflamation
or allergic reaction. I wasn't too sure
if that was why so I checked other
things... I went to a cardiologist got a
ekg and a sonagram and everything looked
fine, went to a pulminariast and my peak
flow was over 100% my breathing was
fine... Been to the emergency room,
nothing but 6 hours of wait for nothing,
they sent me home saying they couldn't
find anything... Im going to a internist
monday and I will see if I can find out
anything and if I do ill post it..
Oh and by the way, the pain is throughout
the day but it comes and goes, where as
when I lay down at night, I always get the
pain.
I am having similar problems to you all.
I have had stomach problems for as long as
I can remember, including nausea,
diarrhea, cramping, constipation, chest
pain, and gas. My doc told me that I
probably have ibs and acid reflux. My
problem now is that I have this horrible
pain on my sides, particularly the left.
It has been extra painful the past few
days, so much I double over and have to
sit down for a few minutes. Also, I have
noticed blood and mucus in my stools. I
don't know whether I should go to the
doctor or if it just another thing they
are going to say is part of ibs.....
Think I should get things checked out? I
am 19 years old and going to college so I
can't really affort to get a buncha tests
unless its really necessary.... Ugh.

Hi, I also have been having pain under my
rib cage on my left side. The best way
for me to describe it....Is it kind of
feels like after you have drank a lot of
water then went running for a while. Is
that the same kind of pain that your both
experiencing? It's a sharp pain sometimes
and a dull pain other times. I notice it
mostly while resting or watching tv. This
is a new pain in my life and hopefully
won't stick around much longer. I'm
asking you what your pain feels like to
see if we have the same symptoms or should
I see my Dr. I also have 3 kids and a
busy life always on the go. Stress is
just part of my daily life having 2
teenage daughters 16 & 17 and a son
11. So, hopefully it's not stress
related.

I stumbled onto this website via google.
I don't know whether to feel relieved or
scared after reading the posts here!!
All of a sudden about 10 days ago, I
started feeling something on my left side,
it wasn't pain, just felt like something
was there. It feels like something is
encased on my left side. It starts right
below the breast and wraps around my left
side. Goes from about left 1/3 of front
to left 1/3 of back below the rib cage.
Sometimes its there, sometimes not and
sometimes it almost feels like I have 2
golf balls at the bottom of my rib cage in
front on both sides. My upper back even
bothered me for a few days (ribcage) but I
attribute that to being at pc too long and
to posture. Also, sometimes I feel
something like a slight burning at the
bottom of the rib cage on both sides but
that seems to have subsided for now.
Of course, the more I think about it, the
worse the symptoms. I was under some
stress a couple of weeks ago but the
problems that caused it have now been
solved.
So what do you think is wrong with me. As
I site here typing this it feels like
there is something there on the left side
below the breast at the bottom of the rib
cage and my left shoulder feels strange as
well. Am I being overly paranoid or
what!! I keep thinking these terrible
thoughts!! Help please!!

Pain Under Left Rib Cage Posted: 08-14-05 21:59pm
20 y/o f
my pain is under my left rib cage as well
as my rectum. It is a stabbing pain,
hurts to inhale when it flares up. The
pain is also a stabbing feeling in my
rectum. I have read about colitis and I
am scared that this may be it. Diseases
like this increase a person's likelihood
of having colon cancer. I have had an
abdominal ultrasound, which was
unremarkable. I have also had an
abdominal cat scan, unremarkable. I have
a primary md appt tomorrow, and I think he
may reccommend me getting a colonoscopy...
I, too, am thinking the worst... I feel
like maybe it's a tumor in my colon or
something... Because my bowel habits have
changed over the last year and a half and
they are also very narrow. I don't
understand how so many people have this
yet docs seem so baffled. I do have a
stressful life, but I don't think i'll
ever attribute this pain to stress...And
when a doc says ibs all I hear is "i
actually don't know what the hell is wrong
with you."

Most of this sounds like hiatial hernia,
ibs, acid reflux, lactose intolerance(like
one writer said)and or gas trapped under
rib cage. I have all of theseand in
different times of my life ive pretty much
experienced all the symptoms ya'all have
wrote. Try zantac you can now buy over
the counter--they prescribed me 150's, 2
times a day. Now you can buy the 150's
at walmart. If ot try rolaids when
symptoms are there. Rolaids are instant
but zantac you take every day--takes 40
min or so for first one to work, but a
full week or two taking them to get
maximum benefit from them. If it dont
help at least you tried. They cant hurt
you to try them.
Let me know if I helped anyone

I have a similar disorder. At first it
felt like my bottom left rib was a drift
so I had a bunch of x-rays and nothing was
found to be broken.
It’s been coming on and off for a couple
of years now. When it goes off I don’t
worry about it, then it comes back and I
think the worse. A lot of the replies
above are making me think it is gastric
now.

Pain Under Left Rib Posted: 08-18-05 10:26am
I've had that gnawing pain for about 3
years now. I used to dread the worst,
but because it comes and goes, I think
that it must be nothing serious.
Sometimes, it actually feels like there is
something in there, like something is
swollen. Does anyone else feel that way?
Like there is a balloon trapped under my
ribs. Also, when I have a massage done
on my back and that area is pressed from
behind, it feels like there is something
in there moving. I wonder if the organs
can move around under the ribs, or if
something is really swollen. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Yes, it does feel like somthing is in
there. Like a large bubble.
I can't offer an diagnosis though, what it
really is remains a mystery to me at the
moment.

It's just the strangest thing, isn't it?
I have anxiety disorder and slight panic
disorder and I notice that when I am not
anxious or stressed out, I don't notice
any pain or discomfort in that area.
But, when I start worrying about life or
something, I can feel that throbbing ache,
and I start thinking the worst. My
doctor told me that is where the spleen is
and if it were swollen, I would be able to
feel it with my hands. So, I think it's
gastrointestinal. I do think it's the
upper portion of the gi tract because
sometimes I feel a churning like sensation
as if there is air or something moving
through. So annoying!

I'm a previous poster on this forum....
Had same pain under left rib cage for
about 2 or 3 years now. I just got home
about 30 minutes ago from my colonoscopy
and endoscopy! My colonoscopy was
unremarkable and my endoscopy showed that
my esophagus was a little red/inflamed and
the doc said it's acid reflux . He has
put me on nexium. I'll let you know if
it works!!

Pain Under Left Rib Cage And Thru to Back In Same Place Posted: 08-27-05 15:05pm
Hi....Your symptoms sound alot like
mine..I have never heard of sfs but intend
to look it up...I have experienced this
for many years....Sometimes much worse
than others! My pain centers under the
left rib cage and around to the back in
the same general place.....I find myslef
constantly twisting and stretching and
trying to pop or relieve the back to allow
relief....No help. I also find that I
have gastro symptoms along with
this....Constant belching and the feeling
of gas bubbles........Alot of pressure and
bloating especially after meals. I take
prilosec every day to help with the
burping etc but it doesnt help the
symptoms of the left side pain and
pressure which is virtually constant. I
have considered that I may need to see a
chiropractor (scared!) cuase that side
feels "outta whack" and I am quite
lopsided when I stand and look in a mirror
and I may have some spine curvature which
my father has..............??? Anyone
have these symptoms with a curved spine?

Hi folks. I have had very similar
symptoms to all of you. I have been
diagnosed with ibs before, and my
digestive system does seem to be affected
when I get stressed. I also have
problems with anxiety and stress - I like
to be busy all the time, usually I have
several things on the go at once; so my
personality and lifestyle aren't always
easy on my body. I've felt pain under my
left ribcage and on the left side of my
chest for the past month and a half, and
like anyone who worries a lot my mind ran
through the list of possibilities - lung
cancer and severe allergy problems, to
name a few. My doctor did a spirometer
check (i also have allergy issues) and an
ekg and everything came out normal. Like
a couple others have mentioned on this
post - to know something is there and have
the doctors not find anything is very
frustrating. I realize now after reading
your messages that we are all likely in
the same boat - stress, and in some cases
poor eating habits and lack of physical
activity (that's certainly my case) are
causing our bodies to act out. I have a
background in nutrition, and yes, it is
true that calcium and magnesium are
required for adequate muscle function.
Remeber to check the quality of the source
that you are getting these minerals from -
absorption of either of these can be
affected by other things in the diet.
Thanks to everyone for posting their
thoughts and findings - it really helps!
