I'm immigrating to canada from the u.S.
And I had to undergo an immigration
medical. Its my 3rd one so far, and this
time, they found persistent blood in my
urine. It started in december, they
found something and had me retested, and
in february they gave me some meds.
Afterwards, there was still blood in my
urine and I was put on stronger meds.
When I got put on the stronger meds, I
started experiencing cramping in/around my
right kidney. It felt like there was
something squeezing my kidney and I was
getting headaches. I called the doctor
right away and they said to go in if it
got worse. Well, I left work a couple
days later because the cramping happened
again and I went to the hospital. I
couldn't bend over and could hardly sit
still. I ended up almost vomitting, and
then I felt really sharp needle-like pains
and then the pain passed. I did blood
tests on my liver, kidneys and gall
bladder, and they all came back fine.
Now, immigration has pushed that I see a
urologist, and i'm still having random
back cramps. Also, I had missed a full
month of my period for the first time ever
in february, and now i'm cramping badly,
yet my period is 2 weeks late again.
Does anyone have any idea what this could
be? I keep looking up persistent
microscopic hematuria, but its so vague as
to what might be wrong with me. I'll be
seeing a specialist at the end of the
month. Is there anything that you guys
think stands out, or anything? I have
had bladder infections off and on for my
whole life, its like, second nature to me,
so i'm just worried that it might be some
sort of a tumor or something developed.
Bah, any ideas, let me know! Thanks...

Hi Canada Posted: 08-08-05 23:53pm
Im 34 with persistent hematuria. I had
an ivp, cystoscopy, kub, renal ultrasound
and lots of blood work to check for lupus.
I have chronic renal insufficiency,
second stage of 3 stages. My kidneys are
slowly deteriorating. A kub is an xray
that checks the kidneys, ureters and
bladder. An ivp is an intravenous
pyelogram and a cystoscopy check the
bladder and its integrity for lesions and
such... Stones too. I would look more
into your health until you get a
definitive reason why you have hematuria.
There should be no blood in the urine.
Prayers and wishes your way.
Also check for diabetes.

I have persistent microscopic hematuria,
and I also have urinary frequency since
2002 (at age 28). Urine every 30
minutes. My 2003 abdominal ultrasound
showed my liver is normal (no evidence of
liver masses). The spleen, pancreas and
kidneys are normal. The aorta is normal.
In july 2005, my doc gave me detrol la
and it helps me go the restroom every 2
hours (that's good). I'm afraid I still
have hematuria. What's wrong with me???
I'm now 31, still young. Please help.

Hi Hematuria Posted: 08-09-05 16:38pm
If you pee and pee, you may want to get
your blood sugars checked. Your livers,
kidneys can be good but if you are
urinating alot, it can be a sign of
diabetes, youre drinking too many caffeine
drinks, excessive sugar or you can be
anxious. Listen to your body and explain
your concerns to your doctor. I pee alot
too, always have since I was a lil girl.
I did my own urinalysis dipsticks when I
worked in a clinic and had blood in my
urine some 8-9 years ago. Hematuria is
not normal and therefore you should go to
doctor and tell him to run further
testings. Some doctors dismiss hematuria
and dont bother checking more into it cuz
you may look and feel healthy but blood in
urine is a no-no and should get checked.
I didnt menstruate for 5 months and the
doc ran prego tests, my body was going
outta whack, losing hair eben though I
have lots. Felt fatigued like never
before I my life. I have chronic renal
insufficiency, another pretty word for
chronic renal failure. I wish doctors
would give you the hard cold facts and
quit minimizing and sugar coating our
complaints and questions. Be aggressive.
Complain and lie about pain if you have
to, to get those tests you need. Tell
him your constant peeing is preventing you
from getting a good nights rest. Be on
top of that health questions and dont let
him tell you that its from excessive
exertion or exercise or 'youre athletic"
or whatever they come up with. Get those
tests run. Read my previous post from
earlier for tests. A microscopic
urinalysis is what he should start with.
If he gives you a hard time about further
testing, come in complaining about pain or
lack of sleep then he will listen. I
hate doctors sometimes. I had an er
doctor tell me I had chronic fatigue and
panic disorder when I complained of chest
pain. My calcium was very low, blood
pressure kinda high and I had blood and
ketones in my urine. My ekg came out
funny and he said I had a heart of a 60 yr
old. It was high blood pressure after
finding it out with a cardiologist. Im
young, athletic and strong and when a
doctor looks at me, he sees a healthy
girl, good weight and makes a conclusion
based on nothing. Im sorry but be tough
and aggressive

I forgot to tell you that my blood sugar
is at normal range. I don't drink sodas
or any caffeine drinks. I will get my
ivp radiogrophy next week and let you
know.

Medullary Sponge Kidney Posted: 08-17-05 18:03pm
I now learn why I have hemauria and
urinary frequency/urgency. My
intravenous pyelogram (ivp) radiography
shows I have medullary sponge kidney.
