Screw Broke In Lower Back Posted: 05-15-05 18:31pm
I had a spinal fusion in january of this
year, and had my last check up the other
day (in the meantime I had been calling to
tell them of the bad pain I was having,
one of them actually said "maybe it's in
your head since you have had pain for so
long")anyway, the xray showed that one of
the screws broke and I have a shattered
bone, and the Dr. Said I need another
surgery and they might have to go in
through the front, has anyone ever had
this happen? Thanks

I have not had the broken hardware in my
spine but the procedure I had done was
through my belly. The healing time as far
as surgical site pain is over much more
quickly and a ton less bloody when done
through the abdomen. I lost less then 2
ounces of blood and also there is much
less tramua to the nerve tissue in the
back because the spine in your back is
totally surrounded by muscle tissue.
I would not hesitate to have another
surgery in the anterior approach.
