I am a 20 year old female and was
diagnosed with lupus about 1 1/2 years
ago. A few months ago I had a portacath
inserted into the main vein in my upper
chest, it has never worked correctly (part
of the reason that I got it was so that I
wouldn't have to stuck in the arm every
time they drew blood or gave me a shot
however they can't draw thru it), about 2
weeks ago I was informed that now there is
massive scaring to that vein just below
the port. My questions are is it normal
to get that much scaring? Shouldn't they
be using the portacath or have found out
why they can't? And about how long does a
normal portacath insertion usually
take(mine took about 20 mins.)?

Make sure you have the best doctor that
you can if this procedure was not working
something should have been done. I had
this problem with my wife I must say she
passed last year. I love her and miss her
so very much. If I can be of help let me
know I have been down that long road with
her every step of the way.
