Meditation

when I can unwrap my mind's obsessive grasp on whatever I am feeliung anxious about, and point my energy in a different direction....Then, I can escape my anxiety.

At first this was nearly impossible for me to do, because you must control your breathing, and calm yourself. But, you can do this! After all knowing that "this is just my anxiety" is so much more comforting than thinking "what is wrong with me? Blah blah blah"

hello crippled,

unfortunately most doctors have no clues as to what causes anxiety attacks and yet the treatment is so simple.

Anxiety attacks are caused by excess adrenaline production. This happens when the brain senses a energy starvation as during a hypoglycemic dip. This means that the brain is starved of energy. Biological energy is derived form glucose found the food we eat. When we eat too much sugar it may result in insulin resistance (hypoglycemia) meaning that receptors for insulin fail to push glucose (as well as other nutrients) across the cell membrane. The brain needs a constant supply of biological energy (derived form glucose) to synthesize our feel-good neurochemicals.

Insulin resistance causes an increase in the blood sugar level, triggering the release of more insulin. Excess insulin causes a sudden drop in blood sugar levels and now we have a hypoglycemia and brain starvation.

In response, the brain send stress hormones to increase blood sugar levels, but these very stress hormone also cause the anxiety attacks.
Pleas read:

“beating anxiety” at our web site for more details.

I always have to carry around white tic-tacs with me or cough drops. For some reason the mint helps me breath easier and makes my mouth less dry so it's easier to swollow. As soon as I start to feel an attack come one, I pop one in and try to breath.

Know what made me less of an anxious hypochondriac? Taekwondo. Last year I reached my 1st degree black belt and decided to take a break, and boom! I got all nutty again. I should really get back into it.

I was having anxiety issues for the last year. I had no idea why either. Went to every doc u can think of, diagnosed myself with every disease I could, and spent countless numbers of hours researching my symptoms. I tried paxil, and then buspar for a short time. The one thing I did realize was cut the stress out. I quit doing home daycare, and all of it was gone the next day. No joke! Every now and then I still get a dizzy time, or my chest will hurt, but I know its anxiety and nothing else....Hope this helps..Just find out what is stressing you out, and change it! I had no idea it could be so simple....

No More Xanax
Posted: 06-20-07 14:02pm

Thanks adambaum for the info about goji berry. I have suffered from anxiety for most of my adult life and I have recently replaced my xanax prescription with Himalayan Goji Juice. From my research, this seems to be the most pure version of the popular supplement. I have been drinking the juice for 3 months now and it has reduced my anxiety significantly and has also helped me get quality sleep.

I use dr Bach rescue remedy, four drops 3 times a day. I drink 2 glasses of water every 3 hours and listen classical music. That's my best remedy for anxiety.

Coping

HI, my name is Crystal and I am fairly new here. It is great that so many people have come up with ways to cope with their anxiety. Mine is so intense, tho, I decided to try medication. My doctor put me on Cymbalta. I have no major side effects. I know you read all this negative stuff about meds, but, if you live with strong anxiety you know how horrible it is. I am so tensed up most of the time I have muscle pain. I couldn't even relax enough to try anything effectively. Some of us just need the help.

Hi Crystal:
I was on Cymbalta also for 9 months. Be very very careful with this med. Please wean off slowly when you are ready to quit. Use at least 4 or 5 months to slowly diminish your daily dose by 5% increments each 10-15 days. This AD is a strong mind altering med.
When did you begin on Cymbalta?

Good luck

I know all about tapering off, I tried Effexor last year. I didnt have any problems stopping. My doc works very closely with me, she is fantastic,I love her. I have been on Cymbalta for about 3 weeks, I just moved up to 60mg. I feel better already. Believe me, I NEED a mind-altering med! I am tired of going thru every day with a raw, gnawing anxiety from the minute I wake up. I know meds don't work for everyone, for others they are awesome.

I just ordered some aromatherapy and it is coming today!! There is a special diffuser. I am excited to see if it works. I am going through someone who actually went to school for it. She mixed some oils that have a sedating, calming effect. I also got some lavender as well.

I have severe anxiety disorder and have had it since I was a child. I heard aromatherapy works.

I find this product that I order from this site [link removed] helps a lot. It keeps you calm with a clear and sharp focus. So things are not really bad with me now and I recommended the product to a friend and it has been helping him so far.
