Ortho Evra---3.5 Weeks Into...nausea From That? Posted: 05-21-05 16:49pm
I have been on the patch for 3 weeks. I
will be on my patch free week in 3 days.
Every time I eat, or nearly everytime I
eat something, I get horrible sick. Dry
heaving and such, nausea, and sometimes
vomiting. The cramping in my stomach is
absolutely atrocious. I can't move, and
sometimes it's just the nausea feeling,
other times iend up having to go to the
bathroom. Cause it feels as though I am
going to have diarrhea.
I did a pregnancy test just in case, since
my doctor didn't test me in the first
place when I went in for the change in
birth control....And the test came back
negative. So, that clears up that
possibility for nausea and such.
I was just curious as to if anybody else
has experienced really bad cramping and
nausea for weeks into using the patch.
Right now, I currently place it on my
lower abdomen, because it's better hid.
Thanks for any help.
And I apologize, this was probably already
discussed, but right now, i'm not feeling
well enough to really search.
Sorry.
Thanks,
dawn

I have been on the patch for about a year
and 3 months and I have never felt any of
those symptoms. It might just be that
your body is adjusting to the hormones
that the patch contains. However, there
are side effects to using the patch such
as: skin irritation, vaginal bleeding,
problems wearing contact lenses, fluid
retention (one that I experience) and
change in skin color. But some people
also experience nausea and vomiting,
dizziness, breast symptoms, headache,
menstrual cramps, abdominal pain (also).
In extreme cases: change in appetite,
nervousness, depression, loss of scalp
hair, rash and vaginal infection.
Maybe you will want to hear from someone
who has experienced the same as you, but I
thought that by providing this info will
help ease your mind. If you think that it
isnt worth going through these things,
than find out if other form of birth
control would be best for u.
Good luck!

I Experienced That the Same Day But Now.. Posted: 05-22-05 21:38pm
 the next day after the first day
of the patch. I woke up nauseous. Threw
up about 4 times during the day. I bought
a homopathic remedy called: nux vomica
took it and have not had intense nausea
symtoms or had to threw up since and this
is wk 2 day 1 for me. I still get a tiny
queasy but I find I am more senstive to
what I eat and easily get naseous with
subject matters etc. I highly recommend
it at your local health food store. I
bought it at whole foods and I told the
guy why I wanted it and thats the
homopathic he handed me. It cost me 9
bucks and you take these tiny balls
(pills) under your tongue. Be sure to
stay hydrated drink plenty of water until
you get your symptoms under control. Also
before I got the nux vomica I was taking
ginger tea and it really helped too. Best
of luck

I never had anything quite like that but I
have been on the patch now for about 6
months and at the start I did feel sick
especially on day 1 and 2 of changing the
patch.
Try moving the patch, I wear it on my bum
and so my underwear cover it.
Im no doctor but maybe the position of the
patch has something to do with it as its
so close to your tummy.
Feel better soon!

Well I just took my patch off after 3 days
I though I was going to fine becasue the
first day was nothing and second only a
little quesy. Now day 3 and I have
hardley eaten a thing all day becasue of
being quesy. Doctor is going to let me
try ortho low next month to see if that
helps. I know I have to stick in there
with it to get past the side effects but I
am going on vacation next week and did not
want to feel anything like this. I have
not actually gotton sick but this constant
upset stomach is no fun.

Me Too Posted: 06-10-05 17:46pm
I felt absolutely terrible on the patch
too. I started the patch on a sunday and
on wed I felt absolutely terrible. The
doctor said stick with it and the pain and
nausea and cramping and headache dulled,
but I still did not want to eat and when
it started to repeat itself the next week
(mon night of the second week I took it
off for a couple of hours it hurt so bad)
but wed(the day I felt the worst so far) I
got into the doctor and they said they
wanted to start me on something with less
dosage because I was also getting a local
reaction ( it hurt where the patch was and
was all red even days after I took the
patch off.) he put me on a low dosage
pill, lutera. I started halfway through
the packet and I am on the friday of the
second week ( I took the pill wed night
and took off the patch at the same time,
and also took one last night and I still
feel great.
Also, other notes: my second week I put
the patch on my back instead of my lower
abdomen like I did the first week. It was
a lot better with locality reaction. My
body still hurt, but not like it did when
the patch was on my stomach. If you do go
on a pill I would suggest taking it at
night with some food just before you go to
bed so that any nausea you get from it
will be while you are asleep, then you
feel fine in the morning.
Hope you feel better soon! Good luck!

Side Effects Not Thaaaat Bad Posted: 08-04-05 19:27pm
Im on day 5 of the second patch, its my
first non spotting day im soo happy! Its
like my period did no stop for almost two
weeks lol. For a few days now i'd had the
slightest crmaping and yesterday it was a
little bit stronger. Not bad crmping just
barely noticable and for a little while
but it was definately there. After that
the spotting just stopped. My breasts are
a little bit tender and a litle bit bigger
(no complaining there) but thats all the
side effects I experienced. My biggest
worry about the patch was possibly getting
nauseous so along with it I bought all
these medicine for that lol I used one the
very second I put it on but since time
went on and nothing happened I did not
take it again. I dont know if its patch
realated but im not hungry either so...
Matybe thats another side effect I dont
know
