Hello all, my name is josh I was super happy in an odd way to see that I am not alone. :d I read all the post and have the same symptoms as all of you, however I have been having these pains for about 2 yrs. It started when I got a job sitting in front of a computer all day. Never before had I felt anything like it, and I aswell find myself thinking the worst about what it could be. I also want to go to the doctor but in fear of what the outcome could be I dont. I know that when I take any migraine medicine it goes away for about 6 hours and then comes back here and there only for seconds at a time. The worst it seems to get is a dull pain and then sharpens up for about 15-20 seconds. Nothing that hurts to much just annoying... About a yr ago I noticed black spots in my vision I went and had those checked out and I was told they are nothing but black spots no big deal. So I am putting my trust in god I feel that is the best Dr. I can consult seeing how god made me. So anyone who wants to join me, email me jo sh@jmcreditcleaners.Com I will take all the letters to my pastor and he will pray for all of us. God said all things are possible through him, so lets do that. This is such a small task to ask of god so if you would like I have no problem doing so. Thank you...

Not Alone, But Not the Same

In reading these posts, I can say for sure that some of us are all experiencing the same thing. But there are some people who've posted on here who are obviously suffering from something else.

The ice pick headaches seem to be pretty accurate. I don't think it's something that alternative medicine or at-home remedies can permanently solve.

For years i've gotten these headaches but they've been more numerous in the past few days. It used to be that I got one every few months or even years. But i've gotten about a dozen in the past four days. So i'm on here.

Mine works like this: it's a sharp stabbing pain on the right side of my head in line with the front of my ear and just more than half-way up between my ear and top of my head. That spot happens to be in line with my right eye too (from front to back.) it feels like it's just under the surface of my skin or even just under my skull. The area is not sensetive to touch. It lasts for about 30 seconds or so, occaisionaly up to two minutes. It comes on strong and fades slowly.

Putting pressure on it with a finger or palm does not seem to have an effect although that is usually my reaction. Sometimes a dull pain in my right temple or behind my right eye will accompany it, but that is far from always being the case. Tightly closing my eyes and bowing my head are also common reactions.

Since it seems to come on when i'm stressed or animated (aggrevated), I thought it was an anurism. (sp?) but in reading about it on here and other sites, i'm figuring it's not. I also had a wisdom tooth removed on that side about a month ago, so I thought it was maybe a blood-clot. But the timing may just be coincidental. The symtoms seem to be identicle to what many of you have described.

I'm not as worried about it now as I was an hour ago after reading about others with similar symptoms, but I know I should still get it checked out. I am very stressed out lately with my businesses and that's probably the catalyst. But it's obviously something abnormal so it should be checked out. My problem is that I don't have insurance so an mri is going to cost at least a grand or two. So i'm hoping that somewhere online i'll find out what it is to be able to determine if I can go a few months or weeks dealing with it before I drop a couple thousand dollars to "rule something out" as opposed to "pinpointing what it is."

the fact that a lot of posters on here have not given an update worries me... Did they die? What's going on? What were the results of the steps you all took to diagnose this thing?

For last two days I experience a stabbing head ache pain near the top or inside my left ear that last for a second and also at the back of my neck. The first symptom I have felt prior to the head ache is pain in the upper part of my back, left and right shoulder and neck pain. At the moment I have not yet ask for the doctors advice.

Wow I didn't know this was going on with alot of other people. I've been having this pain on the left side of my head for five days now the only way it goes away for me is when i'm laying down but I can't be doing that all day long. I normally don't get headaches and I never had a migraine so I don't know if that's what this is or not. I do have allergies and I did get over from being sick with a mixer of allergies and the flu. I'm also the kind of person that can't stand going to Dr.'s. So if anyone has something else that I can do please let me know. Thank you

Hi folks!

I am so happy to see you all here. I have been having a similar pain - short, sharp, kind of burning and like an electric shock - for the last 8 years. I spoke to a couple of doctors about it, but they said it was nothing to worry about - I felt they hadn't given me enough time though. Anyway, I see that someone thought it might be trapped nerve and I thouight that that would make sense as sometimes the pain is also accompanied by a tingling in my toungue - also sometimes with a funny taste in my throat and a funny smell, making me wondering if something in my head is burning!!!!!!! I wonder if sitting in front of a pc could be the cause. My pains started while I was working on my thesis, and was spending hours at a time in front of a pc. I have since been working in a job, where I also spend hours in front of a pc, and the pain is still there. Sometimes I don't have them for months, and then sometimes I get them several times a day. My optician carried out a throrough eye test over a period of two days, but nothing came up. Then she asked if I had cold feet when I slepp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said that I did, and she said the problem could be due to low blood pressure. This maaaaaaaay be a cause. Shortly after that I joined a gym and worked out twice a week, three hours a time, for two years. I don't think I had any of those pains during those two years. After moving house a year ago, I stopped going to the gym and the pains have returned. Given that i've had this pain for so long, and the relationship with going or not to the gym, i'm thinking that the low blood pressure diagnosis might be the answer too. Nevertheless, it is still worrying when it comes. If any of you guys increase your level of physical activity and find that it has a positive effect, it would be good to hear about it. Anyway, stay cool everyone! Thinking of you all!

Shooting Pains
Posted: 08-16-06 22:24pm

Well, I don't have a lot to add, just that I am very relieved to hear from so many other people with similar head pains. I started getting them about 4 years ago, some time after having my first child. They would come on a couple times a year. Then in november, after having my third child, they started coming atleast once a day. Shooting, almost electrical shock feeling, behind my right year, lasting 15-30 seconds. At the time I was under an extreme amount of stress as my family was moving across the country and my husband left early. So it was me with three kids, 4, 3, and a new born, and also leaving a stressful job. I saw a neurologist and had an mri, and he couldn't determine what the problem was. Once we moved and got settled, they disappeared almost completely, until this week. My husband had to be gone for two weeks, so i'm alone with the three kids, and I have gotten them again, one last night and one today. So I think they're stress related. But i'm wondering if there are any other women out there who have gotten them more frequently after having a baby?

Hi again!

Someone mentioned that it could be a condition called tic doloreaux/trigeminal neuralgia and I googled that last night. This is a condition where a blood vessel is touching the trigeminal nerve, and causes pain. The first remedy seems to be to take an amazing amount of pills until you either become tolerant to them - or the side effects become unbearable - then the next stage is surgery, which seems to be a simple procedure of either damaging the nerve under local anaesthetic or a more invasive procedure, where the blood vessels are shifted under general anaesthetic. For those whose pain is so bad that they need to take painkillers, I would point you in this direction to see what you can find out. For those like me, who can live with these short bursts of pain without medication but are more worried about what the hell is causing it, I am still in search of the truth!

Migraine

Hi,
according to ayurvedic concept, migraine will be manifested because of the trouble of the digestive system. Surely there are some other reasons described in the classical ayurvedic text. As a practioner of ayurveda, I feel personally this is surely linked to stomach. In the fast paced world, everyone is behind packed and preserved food. This will surely destroy the natural equilibrium of the stomach. As a result unwanted gases are formed in the stomach and this will be directed upwards( prathiloma in sanskrit). If you are consulting an ayurvedic practioner, he will surely modify your diet, give some medicines and yoga tips. This all will help you to overcome the problem.

Hope a speedy recovery from the throbbing pain of migraine.

I hate to tell everyone this, but recently I was diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumor.

Since then, I have developed this exact same pain and it just keeps getting worse. I have a dr appt on tues. I'm really worried and pray to god it doesn't have anything to do with my tumor. Everyone should go get an mri done. Even if you can't afford it, save up enough for a down payment and get one done. If you can't pay the balance for the mri, just don't pay it. Go get an mri!

Hi,

This just started happening last night. Was woken up twice by a sharp pain on the right side of head, and has since occured twice during this morning but quite briefly 3-4 secs. Seems to be known as ice pick headaces http ://headaches.about.com/od/otherheadpain/a/ ice_picks.htm

problem is no one seems to be able to say why it suddendly starts or what can be done. I have never had any problems with headaches in the past so this is strange to me. Since this just started yesterday im hoping this will just go away in a couple of days. I wonder if this is alcohol related. only 21 btw. will probably go see a doctor if this keeps up, as it could be something potentially worse. Id advise others to do the same just to be safe.

Ice Pick Headaches
Posted: 05-18-07 20:57pm

I have suffered with ice pick headaches for several years now. I don't even recall when I first experienced one, but research seems to indicate that they are nothing serious. They are still very terrifying though. I get them once every few months. Thankfully I don't get them as often as some people do. But they terrify me each and every time. I read another post in which the person said they thought they were going to die. I felt exactly the same way! It is such an intense and excruciating pain, and the only way I seem to get through it is by grimaching and squinting my right eye shut (the headaches are always in my right temple area).

It does give me some comfort to know that I am not alone, but I am still very scared by these terrible, frightening headaches. I wish there was more of an understanding out there of what causes them. Last night I was woken up at 3 a.m. with one. Awful. I just lay there afterwards in a sweat; I was so scared.

I've been having those same pains. On my right side, and to where it feels so tender you think omg could it be a brain tumor. All the tests, mri's,catscans, and blood work, there's nothing. My doc told me that people just get them and there always in the same spot, every once in awhile they move, but usually it's right there on my right side right above my ear. maybe it could be related to tmj? That's what I have in my right jaw, maybe maybe not. Wink

i also have black spots in my vision. About 2 years ago, i started to see floaters, just regular ones in the sky they look like sparkles, or fireworks. Then after that I started to see black things, went to the eye dr and he said there's nothing wrong with me, it's just floaters. So I don't know. It's been about two years now and nothings wrong with me. Well nothing that serious, so and I've been to so many regular drs, eye drs, and they all say I'm fine. so maybe it is normal?

I agree w/ all of you, I too am glad to find many of you out there experiencing the same thing, it does make it less scary. I have the quick sharp pain in the left side of my head above ear, where it feels like a stab then goes away, this is co-insiding w/ some ear pain as well. I think after reading what everyone else has to say, it must be a nerve, I haven't been overstressed but have caught myself clenching my jaw a lot, then I started getting this pain. It's only been about 3 days but it feels as though my ear is going numb...?? It does jolt you until the pain goes away, so I feel for everyone that has to go through this, and I am praying it's not for years like some of you've had to endure.

Also, people with the "eye floaters" etc. I would def. see an eye doctor this could be the start of your retina detaching. My step-father' a eye doctor and this is what he told me. Good Luck

Hi,

You probably have a cluster. My dad has it every so many years. It is ten times worse then a migraine. The only thing you can do for it is go to a doctor who knows what a cluster is and then they will give you shots for the pain. Also if it is a cluster get some fresh oxygen from the hospital or some medical place, breading clean oxygen kind of breaks-up the cluster.
