It's okay pauly boy. You're just stated what you feel strongly about. :) it's wonderful that your wife is off of accutane and that her acne is still staying at bay. If it ever slowly starts to come back, the green smoothies might keep her from having to go back on it. I hope it never comes back though! :)

I've Been On Roaccutane
Posted: 10-04-06 07:40am

Hi I went on roaccutane 2 years ago after going through 6 years of random rashes of spots and pimples... By then I had been on 'the pill' for 5 years that had made me feel like crap (helped with acne abit but made me gain 5 kg, bloated, fatigued and give me bone pains).

So yeah the doc tells me yes there is a minor chance it could cause depression, hair loss, dry eyes, sore bones etc... By the way I had heard this all before at the age of 16 when I first was looking for a major cure and it messed me out so much I thought noo that sounds awful noo!! But after 6 years of agony I thought.. No more! I have had enough what could be worse? So I went on roaccutane... And had some of the side effects while on it. Dry eyes, lips, skin .. Really sore coxic, extremely dry lips..
A small positive was that I didn't have to wash my hair for a week as it was so dry..

Anyway.. Finished my 6 month sess. Of roche and boy was I excited ... No acne what so ever!!.. 2 months go past and I felt soo good no acne hurray! No acne controlling my happiness and confidence..

3rd month passes and acne begins to appear.. And boy i'm not so happy anymore.. I thought... Maybe its just a phase, but it was not .. I have now had roller coaster breakouts ever since.. Although the acne doesn't seem as big.

Now I even have a worse problem than acne. My main side effect that has occured since finishing roaccutane... That happened about 7 months after finishing it is dry, sore eyes..
And I mean dry to the point where I can only work on my computer now for a max of 2 hours before irritation begins.. And it really makes me upset bc I need to do work on my computer 9 -5 and it stops me from doing that.. Even with proper breaks my eyes still get irritable... I have spent 400 bucks on buying reading glasses and they aren't fixing the problem either. It has made me become really worried and upset.

So my advice to anyone that is thinking of taking this drug try some alternative tips first bc boy you could be opening pandora's box if you go with roacc.

1. Avoid having hot showers (this can make your skin worse)
2. Avoid touching your face at all costs!!! (i'm amazed how much of my acne can erupt just by me scratching my chin/forehead).
3. Clean up your diet (don't have oily foods or cheese)
4. Stress less!! (don't let things get you down, meditate, drink less coffee and tea which can make you anxious) go for a 10 minute walk everyday that will help relax you and release endorphins.
6. Take note of your hormones. They are usually the main contributor to your acne. My acne gets the worst about 4 days before my period (so I take evening primrose oil to help combate it).
5. Don't go out late at night and get smashed too much Smile
6. Drink lots of water!!

I am now taking chinese herbal medicine after hearing that my cousin had great relief of her acne after taking the herbs. I am now taking these herbs for both my acne and the pain in my eyes that I got from roaccutane and i'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm never going to take such western drugs again..

I really hope this info helps.. And by the way don't let acne sqaush your idea that you will ever be able to find love.. I met my other half while on roacc. And even through all this he still is beside me even with my spots !!

Take care Smile

I had an episode of depression when I was 13 or 14. I am now 18 and have no problem with it at all .. Except for the low self-esteem of course that comes with my acne. My dermatologist says that accutane is completely out of the question because of that depression I had like forever ago. I don't know if this makes any sense to you guys but when you have acne all you want is clear skin and all you want is higher self esteem - and you'll do just about anything to get to that point. I realize that doctors have to go by certain rules and look out for the health of their patients, but i've tried almost everything out there and my skin just will not clear up no matter what I do. That bout of depression I had back in the day was most likely because of the way my skin was starting to look.

Do you guys think it's right for my derm. To say that accutane is completely out of the question for me no matter what? Take into consideration that i'm also on birth control pills and even they haven't cleared me up at all! I have acne on my face and back.

I want to be on accutane more than anything. I just want my life back and with all the miracle stories i've heard and all the research i've done on this drug I think accutane would be the best thing for me.

So heres my deal with accutane, took it first... When I was about 15.. Cleared me up amazingly. I battled depression with it and terrible mood swings. My dad could barely talk to me without making me cry. (he has a stern voice the old mean man lol) I would prob be the type that would end up killing myself while on the drug if I diddn't have such a loving family to babysit me and make sure that I was alright.

Had a relapse at about 18 took it again for four months, again the terrible depression, and well mom wouldn't let me take it anymore. However, the four months instead of six still seemed to work quite well until about now... I am 20.. And having a terrible relapse. It is still not as bad as it was when I first went on accutane. Before my first treatment I had huge painful pimples on my back. It was really gross! I haven't to this day had another one on my back.

I am thinking about going on the drug for a third time, but my best advice, is dont go at it alone... Be sure that you have someone that can monitor you to watch for mood swings and just being a lil to down and on the outs...

Also, if your somehow able to obtain this medication without a perscription, like online, I would strongly discourage it. You really need to be monitored while on it, it can do some severe damage to your body, also, as many drugs, if you dont take a prescription that is right for you, like taking to little, for not a long enough period, or taking too much... You are just damaging your body, and not really clearing up your acne.
Good luck.. Smile
