Tmj And Botox Posted: 05-22-05 12:54pm
Does anyone have information about doctors
in the los angeles area that will do botox
injections for the treatment of tmj? I
have exhausted all avenues of treatment
and am at the end of the line with my
jaw/head/neck pain. I don't have tmj,
but had a bad reaction to the anti-nausea
drug droperidol (inapsine). (which I now
know if very common, so stay away from
this drug!). It caused my whole body,
esp my mouth to go into muscle spasms.
It's been two years now, and I still have
limited range of motion and pain in my
jaw. It has truly changed my daily
living, and i'm hoping botox will help.
Thanks!

I just had some botox done today along
with injections of Decadron and Marcain to
bilateral jaws and temples-eight
injections in total. I should be feeing a
difference in 2 days with max effect in
two weeks. I know that this is not a cure
but will help a lot as I struggle with
excriciating headaches on a daily basis.
We are progressing in the head neck and
jaw clinic but i still to put in more time
there to correct by body's allignment and
loosen several muscle groups. I have had
tmj for eight years so it's going to take
a while to undo all the damage!! But I am
convinced the botox will help. Go for you
it!!! The injections are painful but in
the long wrong worth it.

I am covered by my insurance for eighty
percent of the cost. I am just trying all
aveues out there to help me cope with this
pain as it is horrible. Dyane do you know
of a tmj specialist in the Ottawa, Ont.
area. I do have one but she has done
everything possible at this point.

tmj botox Posted: 08-14-08 09:21am
I have the awful TMJ. Presently, there is
no pain, but I am sure it is on its way.
I wondered if anyone has truly had success
with Botox. I have heard it can relax the
TMJ muscle. Right now I have a bite
splint that doesn't work no matter how
many times it gets adjusted. I thought
the botox might help with the constant
grinding of my teeth during the night. I
get very little sleep. I thought the bite
splint would help, but now instead of
grinding the teeth in the front, I grind
my teeth in the back with the splint on.
I feel wasted most of the time. What to
do? I don't want drugs just some relief.
Anyone had botox done for TMJ? What was
the approximate cost? I live in the
Midwest and it seems to be secret about
the overall cost. I can only take that as
a "big" money sign. I was quoted with
$14.25 per unit, but they don't know how
many units may be needed. I say I should
at least receive an estimate to save me
and the doctor some grief.

Hi. I had botox for the first time July 24
and had relief for a week or more. I see
my pain specialist next Tues. He will
probably suggest more injections but you
can't have them done more than two months
apart. I did a lot of research on botox
and it does help in many instances . my
dr. has a lot of experience with this and
sees positive results. I just need some
relief from these headaches i have on a
daily basis for a year now. I first got
this tmj in 2000. It's not fun that's for
sure. i have suffered immensely as all tmj
people do. I am open to any info or
options to help me.
