Finger Pain For 9 Months --nerve Damage? Posted: 05-23-05 00:11am
Hi! I have a question I hope someone can
shed some light on. About 2 years ago I
was lifting a 2' x 4' piece of 3/4 inch,
melanine coated particle board and 'hit'
my right, middle finger the wrong way and
got a very extreme burning hot sensation
located in the top, front bend of the
finger. I put ice on it immediately and
all that happened was that the ice melted
with the heat in my finger. There was no
relief of the heat at all. I put a
splint on the finger and it seemed to heal
after about three months. A year later,
as I was lifting a table to move it I hit
the exact same area again. This time it
was a little worse. That happened about
nine months ago. I put a metal splint on
it and that helps a lot. I take it off
frequently to bend the finger as it gets
stiff. The bending does not hurt the
finger at all. The longer I wear the
splint, the better the finger gets. The
problem is that since the injury is in the
front of the finger anytime you use the
hand that part of the finger touches
something. When the finger feels better,
I take it off for short periods and after
a day or so i'm right back where I
started. There is no numbness, no
tingling, no loss of movement at all.
Only a pain that spans in a straight line
down the middle of my finger on the palm
side at the top most joint of the finger.
Can this be nerve damage? Tendon
issues? Some kind of super-bruise? The
sheathing? Of course I have no time to
get to a doctor and hoped someone could
give me an answer. Thanks for any help!
