Breaking the News to a Child ... Posted: 05-23-05 14:02pm
Hi -- any advice would be appreciated on
this topic!
My boyfriend has a 4 year old daughter who
I absolutely love to death. She lives
with us, because james has full custody,
and she is one of the sweetest little
girls. She pretty much is like a daughter
to me -- I take care of her every day and
spend pretty much all of my time with
her.
The problem is -- we are both concerned
about the best way to tell her that I am
pregnant. She is an only child and she is
at a stage where I think she will have a
hard time accepting the fact that she will
have a new brother/sister. I want to be
able to approach her with this in a way
that she can be excited about it and
involved in the planning of her new
brother/sister's birth.
Anyone have any advice on the best way to
tell her? I know this isn't the most
serious advice in the world, but it really
would be appreciated!
Thanks!!

I have never been in that situation but I
remeber that when my parents told me my
mom was pregnant (a long time ago) I was
very exited and very anxious to see my new
baby sister.
But anyhow. Try your best im sure your
lil step daughter would be really happy
more than anything.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!!
(im pregnant too)

Thanks for the feedback and
congratulations to you, too, on your
pregnancy!
A lot of friends of mine have said the
same thing -- that after the initial
surprise she would start to become excited
about having a new baby brother/sister. I
am going to try and get her involved by
helping to shop, etc., for the baby when
it comes closer to my due date and getting
her feedback on names that james and I
have thought of.
