Hi there, I was wondering if anyone on
here could tell me what their hida scan
appt was like. I just made mine and i'm a
little confused I was told that I will be
there for 15 min and then I have to go eat
something and then i'm back for another 15
minute scan. Does that sound correct?
The reason i'm wondering is because
everything i've read online is about how
long the test is. Thanks!

Are you sure you are going for a hida
scan? I didn't have to eat anything for
mine. Are you sure it's not a gastric
emptying scan because I know you eat
something for that(egg sandwich I
think)?
Hida scan takes about 1 1/2 hours. An
hour for the first part and 30 mins. For
the second.
They first inject you with a radioactive
dye that highlights your gallbladder and
take pics for an hour then second they
inject cck--a hormone that causes your gb
to contract, and take more pics for 30-60
mins. That's all there is to it. I think
I was told not to eat anything after
midnight.

I was told not to eat after midnight,
maybe the lady on the phone was mistaken.
Because my doctor requested a hida scan
and thats what the referral has listed.
Anyway thanks for the info I will have to
confirm this with my dr when I see him on
thursday.

I had a hida scan today. It last 1 1/2
hours. They injected the radioactive
substance and it took awhile to show my
liver, gall bladder and intestines. If
you can see all of this, does that mean
they will not do surgery? They have
confirmed gall stones.
Thanks, hope someone can help

Hida Scan Question Posted: 07-10-05 00:00am
Hida scan requires 4 to 8 hours fasting.
You get injected with a radioactive tracer
so they can see your liver and
gallbladder. You may be injected later
during the proceedure with cck to test the
gallbladder ejection fraction. There was
a period of about 8 months a few years ago
when cck wasn't available due to a
production problem. Some places got
their patients to eat instead of cck
during its unavailability.

Hida Scan Posted: 07-25-05 12:01pm
I'm so glad to have found this website.
I've read many of your postings and it
gives me great comfort in knowing that i'm
not the only one who seems to be
suffereing with gb problems that seem to
be near impossible for the doctors to
detect!
I am a healthy 35 yr old. I have been
suffering with gb problems for what seems
like an eternity! I had an ultra-sound
performed on wednesday and it did not
detect any stones. I had a hida scan just
thisd morning and am awaiting the
results.
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me? The
first round of dye injected to fill up my
gb, I felt instant pain. Before the test
was over, I have to go to the bathroom.
Lots of pain with that one.
The second round, the 30 minute part, I
was nauseous the entire time and continued
feeling the same pain.
Almost every person in my extended
fanmily, male and female, has had a
diseased gallbladder. Some had stones,
some did not. I'm getting to the point
where I just ant it taken out. My sister
suffered with gb diesease for a very long
time. In fact, her gb ruptured before
hers was remed. She is a year and a half
younger than me. The doctor kept telling
her she had acid reflux (which I have),
then they told her she had an ulcer.
Neither of which were true. She had a bad
gb. I am afraid something like this will
happen to me before anything is detected!
As i've read through this, I notice that
you can apparently have a negative reading
on almost all test and still have a
diseased gb.
Does anyone have any helpful hints for me?
I'm starting to lose it!

It is possible to have negative results
and still have a bad gb. I had mine out
the end of march the only test I had that
said anything was wrong was the
ultrasound. It shown that I had a
inflamed gb wall and cholesterol polyps.
The hida scan came back normal. Blood
tests didn't show anything was wrong.
But make sure that is what is wrong with
you, because you wouldn't want to have
your gb removed and still be dealing with
the same problems afterwards. I am
dealing with a bunch of problems now that
mine is out--but their due to gastritis
which I had before anyways.
Good luck!

Hida Scan Misnomer Posted: 08-07-05 16:28pm
In may, donna posted a reply saying that
radioactive dye was injected for the hida
scan. Please - we do not use radioactive
dye. Nuclear medicine, the department
which conducts the hida exam, uses no dye
of any kind whatsoever. We use small
amounts of radioactive mixed which
particular chemicals depending on what
organ(s) we want to look at. Dye is used
in x-ray and cat scans. People can be
allergic to contrast dyes; no one can be
allergic to radioactive materials which we
use, nor can they be allergic to the
chemicals mixed with the radioactivity
reconstituted to make the imaging
agents.

Hida Scan Without Cck Posted: 08-25-05 14:23pm
I had several times pain un upper right
side and nausea....Dr sent me for a hida
scan. They told me I would have the
tracer injected and then later cck to
contract my gallbladder. Once they
determined I had not had an ultrasound,
they did this after the tracer scanning
finished. When I came back from the
ultrasound, they said I did not need the
cck because I had the ultrasound. They
did not imply anything was abnormal during
ultrasound....So why would they have not
finished with the cck?

Hida Scan Posted: 08-31-05 14:19pm
I have been dealing with the pain on and
off for a couple of months now. I had a
bad attack last friday. I ate lunch,
then I was in terrible pain for several
hours. I felt like someone was stabbing
me in the abs, and it shot all over my
back. I went to the urgent care center
and told them my problem. They did an
ultrasound that came up negative. I then
went to my regular doctor who told me I
must have an ulcer, threw me some sample
acid reflux medicine, and told me to take
it for a couple weeks and took some blood.
How frustrating! Today I heard from
the doc at the urgent care center. We
scheduled a hita scan for friday morning.
I hope something is detected so I quit
getting treated like it's all in my head
from my regular doctor. I don't have any
heartburn problems, just sharp pains that
give me terrible sweats. And nausea and
constipation. I'm glad to see that my
problem is common, but why is it such a
problem? Painfully confused

Hida Scan Posted: 09-10-05 13:44pm
I had the hida scan with ejection fraction
done on wednesday, and I was just
wondering if this shows up the appendix
also. I have been having alot of
abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and lost
about 25 pounds in 30 days. Now along
with all these other symptoms, I am having
a burning, numbing kind of pain in the
upper right thigh. The dr just looks at
me like I am crazy. Any ideas??? Thanks
