My girlfriend has been taking
orthotricylcen lo for 3 months now.
Never missed a pill til this past month.
Never had a problem til this last month
either. We had sex on the day she had
forgotten it. I ejaculated inside of her
and a week or so later she started
spotting and then went to bleeding 2 days
following that. She has now been
bleeding for 12 days straight. Her
period was suppose to come on sunday. We
really dont know if she has her period now
or if this is just a continuation of the
breakthrough bleeding.
She took a hpt and it came out negative,
but she took it on sunday evening. While
I probably shouldnt be worried, I still
kind of am. Do you think she may have a
chance of being pregnant still? I think
were going to retest again later this week
just to verify.
But also now shes been bleeding for 12
days, she thinks she may have an
infection. Could wearing a tampon for
that long cause an infection? Ive also
read that some infections could be a sign
of pregnancy which also concerns me...
If anyone has any advice or thoughts on
the possibility of her being pregnant or
on her health that would be greatly
appreciated... Thank you.

First off with bleeding for that long I do
suggest she switch on and off between
tampons and pads, tss is a rare but
serious disease that comes from wearing
tampons so you never want to wear them
more then you have to. Missing a pill can
cause you to spot/bleed. Did she take the
right steps after missing a pill? I am on
the same birth control, and if you relize
you miss one your supposed to take it
asap, even if it means taking 2 pills in
one day. Not sure if shes pregnant,
probably not because of the bleeding, but
its always possible, so just in a couple
weeks take another test, and when missing
a pill you should use another form of
protection for 10 days, like condoms ect.
Although, is she on the any day start or
the sunday start??? I am on the sunday
start so most of what im saying is
applying on that. The anyday start your
protected on the very first pill you take
so I dont think youd have to wait the 10
days after missing one. Hopefully the
bleeding will stop soon, my friend once
had her period for a whole month, but she
was having more serious issues...Keep it
posted if she stops bleeding or not. Hope
I was of some help! :)

Shes also on a sunday start and she did
take the pill asap in the morning and then
followed that night by taking it at the
normal time.
I went onto ortho tricyclin lo's website
and there they say if you are late for or
miss 1 pill your safe and you dont need a
backup method. But everywhere else ive
heard the 10 day rule kind of answer.
And like I said she already took 1 test
and it came up negative almost immediately
after she took the test. Shes going to
take another one possibly tomorrow morning
and see the results then. She has no
other symptoms of pregnancy. Boobs
havent swollen or morning sickness...
Nothing like that, so I think its ok but
I want to make sure.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what
to do for breakthrough bleeding like t
his? Any thing she can do to help the
problem?
And is it possible for breakthrough
bleeding to string seamlessly into her
period? Because its been back and forth
from light to heavy for this whole time
now and we dont know if she even had her
period or not. Or if shes having it
right now.

I don't think there is much you can do
about the break through bleeding, yes its
possible she might have started her period
too, but id just wait it out, if it goes
on for another week then id go see a
doctor. And it takes about 3 weeks I
think until youd get a real for sure
result if she were pregnant or not, so
when it gets to that time take another
test to be sure, but with all this
bleeding I honestly don't think shes
pregnant, so don't stress, and be sure
shes not stressing because it can make
things worse with her body. Just keep
taking those pills on time everyday :)

Well she told me today she "definately has
her period" so im not stressing anymore.
Just out of curiosity... Now I know you
can still be pregnant with your period but
its a rare case... And I really dont
think she has that going on right now but,
are you able to test a hpt while you have
your period or no? Will it mess with the
results?
By the way, thank you very much for your
responses. Having someone else here to
reassure us has helped a lot. And
hopefully we can get the breakthrough
bleeding sorted out for her own health
soon... Thanks again

I am not a professional or anything, but I
would think it would take a few weeks for
a test to come up positive or not if she
was pregnant, cause I know the soonest
most test will detect is up to a week
before your missed period, but if two
weeks have gone by and its still negative
shes most likely not pregnant, and if she
were pregnant shed probably have a mis
carraige with all the bleeding, bleeding
when pregnant is never a good sign,
wouldnt worry about the pregnacy part just
keep an eye out on the bleeding, k? Glad
to help :) take care.

Maybe I wasnt clear in what I was
saying... Sorry...
Her regular cycle shows that she should be
having her period now... Shes on the
sugar pills right now and has been since
sunday. So she would be able to test now
and have it be accurate. My question is
is that if she is bleeding from her
period, will that effect the test results
of a hpt? Not that I think shes pregnant
anymore im just curious about that for my
own knowledge kinda thing.

Oh okay, from what I know, no the blood
wouldnt effect the test, as long as her
urine gets on the test thats all it needs.
And how funny me and her are the same
excact schedule with our bc, haha.
