Anxiety Or Aids
Posted: 05-26-05 13:31pm

10 days ago , a got a blow job by a girl I didn't knew. With her teeth she irritated my skin but I saw no blood. I quickly went to wash it and squeezed it but saw no blood either. Also no blood in my underwear (when I got home) whatsoever. But my skin was red , very irritated. Anyway the next day I freaked out , I started reading about early symptoms of hiv and now I think I am having them. The 5 th day after the episode , I got diarrhea, frequent headaches(especially in the back of my head) and a feeling of a lump in my throat. I have to say that I am really stressed about this and these symptoms may be due to anxiety. What do you think ? I have been to some doctors these days and they all told me that my chances of getting infected that way ( one blowjob, nothing else) are very little, but I am still very worried. Of course I don't know if the girl has it , but I am searching for the possibility that she has passed it to me. Am I at great risk ? Of course I am going to get tested in a few months, but I am too stressed over this. :(

Relax!

You had a bj. I wish you many more bj's. It was just a bj. Now relax! Regarding hiv, sure that it is a very serious condition. Hiv may be the biggest inconvenience in your life. However, i'm going to stick with my instinct here and say to you the following. It will snow in miami before you catch hiv from what you described.

Your symptoms are indicative of hiv-fear, not hiv. You are having symptoms of anxiety. You have nothing to worry about. However, let your fear control your conscience in the future. Make sure that you always have protected intercourse. Circumstances due to lust could create other potential problems and exposures.

Yes, once again good advise lives up to the name. Just to consolidate the point, the risk is minimal at best.
In addition, symptoms of early hiv will not appear only five days after the infection. It takes longer than this.
I am fully confident that you did not become infected with hiv in this way. What is most important to remember that when recieving oral sex, the only fluid you are usually exposed to is saliva from the other person (ie. It is not usual that blood will be present). Saliva does not transmit hiv - fact.

Thanks for the advice and for the nice thoughts. I hope you are saying what you are saying not for just making me feel better , but because this is your opinion. I know for a fact, that the test is the only way to know for sure. Do you think I should get tested at three months and then again in six months? Somedays, I am feeling fine and other anxiety takes over and symptoms appear. I hope everything goes ok, it's very important for me to have people say that I 'm propably healthy. Thanks again.

Ps: to good advice : I am from europe and I don't know about the weather in miami. So I hope it doesn't snow there often :p

I'm glad that you're feeling better about things. Please rest assured that I would never simply say encouraging words to make someone feel better. That would be entirely irresponsible. I discuss each problem based on the facts, so if a situation is high risk, I will say so. Likewise, as in your situation, I will acknowledge low-risk scenarios and attempt to explain exactly why it is low-risk, based on medical research. It is only in this way that people can be truly knowledgeable about the hiv problem.

As for testing, I would suggest that one test at three months will be entirely sufficient. However, if you feel more comfortable taking a second test at six months for your own reassurance, this will do no harm. After that point, where i'm sure you will recieve a second negative result, it is very important for your mental well-being that you let the issue go and get on with your life.
